Packaging atom isn't even remotely a possibility until electron is able to be
built on koji.
It seems the gentoo guys figured out how to build it at least:

It looks like the Electron/Chromium issue is the most serious one. OTOH, the
fact that Atom has a lot of dependencies on Node.js package isn't a big issue:
