Hi Barry,
Have you checked to see if there is a newer version of the cross fader
available that will work with more recent versions of Winamp? You may
have done this already but if not that could possibly be a solution to
the problem.
Regards Steve.

What I do is insert the CD, wait for CDex to display the tracks (all are
selected by default), then pres F9 to convert to MP3.

High Jed,
To tell you the truth, I really don't know.
I have never tried that.
Try asking someone on the Winamp For The Blind Mailing List.
I don't know that URL right off the top of my head, but you can Google it to
find it.
My best regards.
John.

The latest stable release is 3.98 as far as I know and I don't think there have
been any more releases.
Installation is simple, just extract LAME.exe and LAME-ENC.DLL to your
windows\system32 folder, CDEX and others should pick them up there.

That's pretty much how I reckon it should be but the only changes I'd make is
set VBR method to old - if better quality is what you want and you're prepared
to wait a little longer - and perhaps have several VBR profiles or presets,
each one having a different VBR quality setting, say one for

are you using a wave volume control, on your sound card?
or using the wave out in winamp?
if so for winamp switch that to the direct sound.
then you can control the volume of winamp and your speech seprately.

The problem I'm having is that my system won't produce regular stereo.
Everything comes out in joint and variable bit rate regardless of software
settings. It's Winamp which I'm using to tell me what my stats on a
particular file happen to be. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

something doesnt seem right there because you can control in the software
the type of bitrates, and stereo types. and once those are saved then they
dont change. i am using itunes. and all my settings are saved perminently.
