Just a thought though, are you sure that your files are playing at the
normal speed because the manual tells you that the files have to play at the
normal speed to get stereo.

Once you change the speed on a stereo file it becomes mono. You change the
speed by pressing the power button until you hear speed then the volume up
and down changes the speed.
