In the newer laptops/notebooks/netbooks, there is one output jack and one
input jack. I can't figure out how to make the input jack be stereo.
Then is it a line in or a mic jack?

you can if you have goldwave or audacity and a cassetes player and
a kable line in/ line out.
or if you by a cassete deck with usb kable you cansee your cassette
file in your pc.
other can help your better than me.
i had do with the line in / out kable not from the usb
but the soundrecorder it is only record 5 minutes on windows xp and
2000 but in vista and 7 you canrecord longer.
but you can use better program the goldwave oraudacity or audiograbber
