 Hi Brad,
 Yes it will!
If I want to change a file to something specific, here is what I do.
I open the file in GoldWave, and then just choose the save as dialogue,
 and
then save the file with the attributes that I want.
Example I may open a .wav file, and then save it as an mp3, at 44.100,
 128kbps stereo.
Now I have 2 files with the same name, but with different attributes.

OK. I did look at Gold Wave on line, and the featured details only show a
24 bit sound bit. Being you have it, can you tell me will it do a 128 kbs
bit file at 44,100 Hz? Gold Wave seems to have come a long way in the
years, I remember it as a shareware program with simple usage, it seems
much more complex and giving Sound Forge a run for the money from what it
 says it can do anyway.

Looking at Gold Wave's details I see it converts to a 24 bit file.
Previously I posted inquiring about a recording software to record at
 128
bit. Perhaps there is an MP3 converter that will do that as opposed to
 a
recording software? Below is the requirements for my MP3s, perhaps I'm
amiss but I'm assuming they are talking about a 128 bit file. Sound
 forge
only maxes at 32 bit and Gold Wav 24 bit. 128 seems high to me but it
 is
what they require. How could I achieve this? Here's the requirements...

Your song must have the following settings:
 Constant Bit rate
 Bit Rate: 128Kbps
 Channels: Stereo
 Frequency: 44100Hz

 Thanks for any help.

Wow, converting to mp3 is done by so many programs e.g. cdex, nero,
accoustica, easy_mp3, among others, even winamp will do it, and I
usually burn at about 32X since anything more than than that causes
errors on my system. The effective burn speed is about 15X though
since mp3s have to be listened too before they can be burned, and
unlike just straight data, take more time. Using a program like
winamp to make *.wav files of midi files is a way to burn them to cd
easily, since the midi file is your sound card's instruments, as it
were, being controlled by someone else's ideas about how a song
should be played, so that's easy enough.

computer mp3's to hi fi

2005-12-24 Thread Andy
Hi all.

I have a large collection of cd's on my computer and I wish to listen to
these through my hi fi.

I have already tried the wireless path by purchasing a Veronica, but the
quality was quite poor with the signal fading slightly when I broke the beam
so to speak. I also tried a wire from my computer to an auxiliary input on
my hi-fi, but the quality suffered quite badly.

I'm thinking of upgrading my ten year old 2 speaker hi fi and thought that
I'd write to the list to see if there was a particular Amplifier or Receiver
which gave better results, perhaps with a usb or similar connection.

Best wishes and Pease at this time.

Andy

Re: computer mp3's to hi fi

2005-12-24 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Andy, I get very good results running a 9ft patch chord from my computer
sound card's line-out into my hi-fi receiver/amplifier's auxiliary input.
Before worrying about the quality of the hi-fi equipment into which your
sending your computer's output, I'd examine why, as you say, you get very
poor quality doing that, yourself. Perhaps, your computer's sound card just
isn't up to the job. for this purpose, I use the Griffin USB IMic, and use
my onboard sound card only for JAWS. Perhaps, something like that will work
better for you than either of the options you describe below.

Blessed Be,

I just tried it. It's accessible and nice piece of software. Of course, you
should use mouse-cursor a little bit but it's screen friendly.

 Hi Brad,
 Yes it will!

OK. I did look at Gold Wave on line, and the featured details only show
 a
24 bit sound bit. Being you have it, can you tell me will it do a 128
 kbs
bit file at 44,100 Hz? Gold Wave seems to have come a long way in the
years, I remember it as a shareware program with simple usage, it seems
much more complex and giving Sound Forge a run for the money from what
 it
 says it can do anyway.

OK I'll check that out thanks. Now for another question then. If Gold
Wav
will do that but my Sound Forge 5.0 won't, and perhpas not the latest
version of Sound Forge either, in your opinion how does Gold Wav stack
up
to Sound Forges editing and effects?

Looking at Gold Wave's details I see it converts to a 24 bit file.
Previously I posted inquiring about a recording software to record
 at
 128
Here's the
 requirements...

Your song must have the following settings:
 Constant Bit rate
 Bit Rate: 128Kbps
 Channels: Stereo
 Frequency: 44100Hz

 Thanks for any help.

Converting Midi to MP3

2005-12-24 Thread djc
I've taken a look at this here Best Midi to mp3 converter. It's mouse
driven but easy to use. He gives you 15 conversions during the demo and he
wants 29.95 but you can only convert to mono from what I observed. It does
convert the midi accurately I will give him that but for 29.95 I think I'll
continue to convert my midi's with Recall-pro which does a nice job and you
can use winamp to load your midi files. He doesn't say that he won't
convert to stereo in the demo but I tried all the different settings and
every mp3 came out mono.

MP3 versus WMA

2005-12-24 Thread john G
Hi folks,
what is the consensus on the WMA format for music files? I have
music encoded in 320 bits MP3 and 192 WMA formats and to be honest
the difference in quality is barely noticeable. I suppose after
quality what matters most is the compatibility factor. Have you guys
found there to be equal support for the two formats in hardware media
players such as juke-boxes and mp3 players?

Any other information, personal observation or opinion on the subject
would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John
