Windows Media Center version accessing
Hi all. I'm thinking of upgrading from my Windows XP Home edition computer to a Windows XP Media Centre edition. I appreciate that I will have to upgrade from JAWS 6.0 to JAWS PRO 7 or 8. There are a few demonstrations of just how accessible the Media Centre is on the Blind Cool Tec site at: http://www.blindcooltech.com/ These demonstrations were created by Larry Skutchan. However, Larry was using WindowEyes rather than JAWS. So finally to my question. Are there any Media Centre users over there in the USA, who are using JAWS to access it. If so, I'd really appreciate some advise before making such a large purchase. Best wishes. editing midi files?
Hi Folks, I have some dot mid files on my system, beatles songs, standards, etc, and I'd like to use parts of some of these as ringing tones on my cell phone. How can I get rid of space, i.e. silence, at the beginning of I want to hold your hand.mid, or how could I take the first line of 'good day sunshine.mid and use just that? I don't think this is a job for sound forge or gold wave, so, is there a program that allows this kind of editing? Any help greatly, as always, appreciated. Rusty Be happy. Talk happiness. Re: Working with audio Players
hi Sharon The reason you can't play the audio file offline is because the .asx file is a reference to the file you're trying to play. In other words, the .asx file tells Windows media player ok, windows media player! I want you to go online to this site, and play this file. Nothing else, just this file. So windows media player says, ok, I'll play that file for you. So the file it's referencing is on asite somewhere, and in order to get the file, you'd actually need to download it to your machine. Sometimes this is possible, sometimes not. if it's a streaming file, then it isn't possible since the file continuously plays. However, if it's just a regular file, ou might be able to open up the .asx file in note pad or some other kind of text editor and download the file to your system. Keep in mind that the file may be quite large, so be warned. Of course, you could always get yourself a faster internet connection like dsl or cable, but I know that that's not always economically possible. If it is for you however, you would be able to play these files without so much difficulty. Hope this helps. At 07:00 PM 5/13/2006, you wrote: Hi! I wish I knew of a good, one-stop resource for finding out all about how multimedia players/recorders and files, libraries, skins, playlists and anything else work. I'm not very familiar with these things. Some time ago I downloaded a file with the extension ASX. It was indicated that this is a Windows Media Player file. Today I set up Windows Media Player 10, then went to the folder where I stored the file and opened it. Instead of playing directly, I was taken online and then it started playing. Since I have dial-up connection, it would play, then break, then play again. I know that dial-up connection is not a good option for listening to things online. Eventually I got a message saying that Windows Media Player could not play the file. I can understand that, if the file is no longer stored in the place where I got it. It's the 911 call that someone made while on a heroic rescue of a man and his daughter, from Readers Digest and HappyNews.com, so I can see that this would be temporary. But why can't I play the file off-line that I downloaded? While it is not, by any stretch of the imagination, really accessible, it's accessible enough for me to play my Net Library books without too much hassle. I got mine from Ebay. The Ilo from Wallmart is what I use. While it is not, by any stretch of the imagination, really accessible, it's accessible enough for me to play my Net Library books without too much hassle. I got mine from Ebay. It's pretty much plug and play, it's set up to work seamlessly with Windows Media Player. It's not my favorite piece of equipment for various reasons, but it suited my pocketbook at the time. Mine is an Ilo 1 gig, by the way. Re: Windows Media Center version accessing
Hi Andy, I'm in the states and am using Jaws 7 pro with an HP Media Center. Obviously the first step in making the most of these two would be to make sure you have Windows set up to work optimally with Jaws. Given these tweaks, you should be able to access the Media Center features, such as scheduling a recording, viewing a previously recorded program, viewing the current TV schedule, etc. I love being able to access these features, something a totally blind person cannot do independently on a normal VCR. Are you thinking of a Media Center desktop or the digital entertainment center, which is a long name for the Media Center which looks like a typical piece of stereo component and fits into a stereo rack. The latter is what we have, and it comes with a wireless keyboard. The keyboard has a laptop layout, so you'll have to learn some different Jaws keystrokes or buy a separate number pad to work with it. Ok, let me know if I can be of further help. IMHO, the Media Center rocks!
