Yes I have used KBPiano for a few years. Now I can't comment on how well
 it
will work with Jaws but I use it just fine with win-eyes. First make sure
you are in the main window of the program.
There is a music creator window but that window is not speech friendly so
you want to be in the untitled window. Lets now type control-p which will
put the program in practice mode. Press notes on the bottom of the
 keyboard
and see if you hear sound. Press escape to cancel this window. If no sound
is heard lets press The letter p and that will bring up a patch list where
you select the instruments you'd like. This should at least get you
 started
Dean but if you need more help Please drop me email and I'll help you.

anybody tried this?

Peter,

I don't think my IMic continually tried to steal away the default soundcard
assignment, the way that my Logitech headset tries to do, and as most other
USB devices try to do, as well. But, if you have this problem, you should
simply edit jfw.ini, to force JAWS to use the output device you wish it to,
regardless of which device has the default output device assignment. Do you
know how to do this?

And, no, the Soundblaster Live 24bit external doesn't continually try to
steal the default device assignment, just the logitech headset does that.

Converting from MP4to WMA seems to be in the free version though.

I know this doesn't answer your question on Goldwave.

Sound Forge 9 Aborting Files

2009-02-06 Thread Nolan Crabb
Some may recall that I wrote to this list back in early January to ask about
getting Sound Forge 9 to play through my laptop speakers while recording.
Fortunately, I found a solution to that problem that didn't include having
to buy an external sound card. Turns out the laptop can send the incoming
signal from the cassette player to the laptop speakers just fine.

Now the problem I have is that when I finish doing a 45-minute recording and
tap either Enter or Alt+F4 to stop the recording, Sound Forge 9 closes, and
it seems to abort the file I've created and not yet had a chance to save.
Windows intervenes, telling me that the program needs to close, etc.

When I reopen Sound Forge, I obviously hit the recover button, but then I'm
told that an error has prevented this project from being completed. I
never get to recover my files, and I don't know the name of the actual media
file created. I've done searches for dot sfw files, thinking perhaps that's
the native format Sound Forge uses to create those temporary files. I've
also done searches for files that begin with frg, and can only find a log
and some temp files, which Sound Forge refuses to recognize.

You should also know that I've set up Sound Forge such that it automatically
stops recording to the hard drive after 46 minutes, which is just about
right for the conversion of cassette books to MP3 format for use in my
Stream.

In any case, if anyone else is seeing this behavior, please let me know what
you think may be the cause. It's so intermittent I can't find a reason or a
pattern.

I suppose it could be a memory issue with the laptop, but I have four gigs
in the laptop, and eight gigs in a ready-boost situation; so you wouldn't
think that would be it. It truly frustrates me to spend 45 minutes spinning
a stupid cassette only to lose the file as soon as the recording stops.
It's gotten to where I just literally hold my breath and hope whatever
session I'm working on doesn't spontaneously abort.

Regards,

Nolan

not do it anyway? Given how many USB devices there are nowadays that one may
wish to use, and the potential for each of them to want to make itself the

use the output device you wish it to is a relatively simple precaution
against potential trouble.

Hi Donna, that is exactly what I want to do as well. My entire cd

vinyl! I used a thing called an inport by xitel but it kept knocking jaws

That's a good additional feature, but I will just turn on the external

Thanks! Namaste!

2009-02-06 Thread Larry Higgins

Hi listers,

I just downloaded a couple of audio books, and unfortunately, the
person who converted these books didn't convert the files into a
single file for each cd, but left all the tracks converted as
individual tracks. All I want to do is to take these files, and place
them in their proper order, and making one mp3 file for each cd.

As of a few minutes ago, I took a look at the batch processing
options in Goldwave, but can find no one step way to select all these
files, and consolidate all these mp3 files into one file. Is there a
way to do this, or must I copy each file, one after the other, adding
them to the last mp3 file created in a manual fashion. Surely there
has to be an easier way to do this. If some one can instruct me in
the best way to go about what it is I am trying to do, I would really

The reason I would like to accomplish this particular task, is to
make it easier to listen to these files on my Victor Stream, rather

there is a little switch on the right side of the IMic which is used for Mic
or Line input. look beside the headphone jack and you should find it. it
isn't a lever as such, but feels like part of the sound card. it slides back
and forth. I hope this helps you.

As I said, I don't recall having to do that with the IMic. I think I only
first ever had to do that when I got my Logitech headset for skype. But, why
not do it anyway? Given how many USB devices there are nowadays that one may
wish to use, and the potential for each of them to want to make itself the
default output device, routinely editing the jaws.ini file to force JAWS to
use the output device you wish it to is a relatively simple precaution
against potential trouble.

Re: Sound Forge 9 Aborting Files

2009-02-06 Thread Ray
Hi Nolan, and this sounds very very anoying!

First off I'm not on SF9, but still using SF7. I had issues rather like
this last year and found updating my soundcard driver to be the solution.
To make a general point, updating drivers for soundcards, video and keyboard
is a really good idea anyway. Not for nothing the Superior Apple folks bang
on about the stability of their machines and this is in some part due to
well written and up-to-date drivers matching the hardware, Oh, where was i?
 Yes, Sound Forge.

I think the temporary files Sf creates end in .FRG rather than starting with
that sequence. I have found that moving SF's temp file to the E: partition
on my hard drive makes these temporary files much easier to locate. (This
is done under the many Sf Options in the tools menu.

I've found Sf to be co-operative on the odd ocasion it does crash and the
files are either recoverable or else can be found.

Do hope you sort this one out - and do let us know the solution when you've
found it.

Ray.

Nolan Crabb wrote:

Regards,

Nolan

2009-02-06 Thread dean martineau
I would use the command line to achieve what you want. For simplicity,
perhaps put the files into the root folder of drive c:, or some other easy p
lace you can find. The easiest scenario would be if you wanted all the files
from the book to end up in one file. So if the book is called my multifile
book, with each chapter being a file with a name based on that name, Go to
the run dialog and type cmd. You then have to navigate to the folder where
the files are. In my example, type cd \ to get to the root of drive c:.
Now type this, paying attention to punctuation:

Copy /b my multifile*.* thebook/mp3

Press enter. To close the command line, type the word exit and hit enter.
You should now have a file called thebook.mp3 in the root folder of your c:
drive.

Goldwave question, never mind

2009-02-06 Thread Larry Higgins

Hello again listers,

Just wanted to let you know that I figured the whole thing out, as I
am want to do, especially after posing the question internationally
g. I found the merge option, and am currently in the process of
merging 102 mp3 files, hopefully in their proper order. I did notice
that the last file in the cue was listed first, and that isn't good,
but I guess I can deal with that little quirk. I've seen this happen
in Nero, and had to rename the file in order to sort properly, at
least I believe remember that working.

As you might be able to tell, I don't use Goldwave all that often, or
nero either as a matter of fact. Anyway, I'm sure that one of you
would have given me the answer if I hadn't figured it out so soon.
Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Thanks,

Larry

Hey Dennis, thanks for your answer. As I said in a later post, I
managed to remember the file Merge option just after posting my
question to the list. Actually, to be accurate, I was reading the
changes page on the Goldwave site for v5.25, to which I immediately
downloaded and upgraded and heard the term File Merge and it hit me
g. As I said, I don't use the program a whole lot, so I tend to get
a little rusty with the recall.

Now, could you tell me if it is possible to keep the Merge from

would think that the fine people at Goldwave would have tackled that
little quirk long before now.

Hi listers,
I just downloaded a couple of audio books, and unfortunately, the
person who converted these books didn't convert the files into a
single file for each cd, but left all the tracks converted as
individual tracks. All I want to do is to take these files, and
place them in their proper order, and making one mp3 file for each cd.
As of a few minutes ago, I took a look at the batch processing
options in Goldwave, but can find no one step way to select all
these files, and consolidate all these mp3 files into one file. Is
there a way to do this, or must I copy each file, one after the
other, adding them to the last mp3 file created in a manual
fashion. Surely there has to be an easier way to do this. If some
one can instruct me in the best way to go about what it is I am
trying to do, I would really appreciate the help.
The reason I would like to accomplish this particular task, is to
make it easier to listen to these files on my Victor Stream, rather
than the Victor classic, because fast forwarding, and rewind are so
much better on the stream.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hope you can help with the iMic

2009-02-06 Thread Peter Alan Smith
Hi Donna, Gary, Alex, et al:

Y'all have been very kind and patient with me. Thanks ever so much! I
don't have individual email addresses so I can't go off-line. Sorry to
those who are disinterested. Here's the situation now that I have the iMic:

I have a Dell laptop, Windows XP, with a SigmaTel Audio soundcard. I am
usually hooked up to a port replicator which also has its own sound card
called C-Media Headphone Set. I have Jaws 9.0 as the screen reader and
Goldwave as the sound recording program.

To start with, I assume that I should disconnect from the port replicator
and use my laptop with the SigmaTel Audio default card. So before shutting
down, I should go into Control Panel, Sounds, Audio tab, and check the box
at the bottom that says use only default devices. I then do a shut down.

I attach the line outs from my tape deck into the iMic line in adaptor plug
and plug that into the line in plug on the iMic. I flip the switch to line
in on the side of the device. I then unplug the USB port replicator. I
plug in the iMic USB plug and restart the laptop computer.

Will I hear Jaws when it comes on? Do I plug in a set of headphones into
the output jack on the iMic? If I don't get any sound, I will have to
abort. The one thing that I will need to check is that my sound settings in
control panel and Goldwave are on the iMic for the recording device and that
the playback settings are on either the iMic for the headphones plugged into
the iMic or without headphones on the SigmaTel card. But I can't do this
without Jaws.

In the old days when my old device was sometimes working, along with doing
the checkbox in the control panel sounds audio settings, I would bring up
the Jaws 9.0 ini file and insert the following at the last line before the
synth2 line:

Synth1Port=SigmaTel Audio

I don't know if I should do this or not. Some have advised that I do this
and some say it is not needed.

I hope that you can help. It's been a struggle to get back to eliminating
my vast tape and vinyl collection. This is all I am focused on besides my
job. It has become a quest of sorts. I wish I had a sighted person along
side that can help, but it ain't happening without much pleading. Besides
this isn't rocket science, or is it? Smiles!

Let me know what you think! You can contact me via any of the contact
points below.

Cheers,

Peter

Re: Is this possible with Goldwave?

2009-02-06 Thread Larry Higgins
OK Gary, this is the way I did it. I simply selected all of the files
I wished to merge from the folder in Windows Explorer, then copied
all of them to the clipboard, then move focus to the Goldwave Merge
dialog box, and paste them all into that box. I would think that
would take care of the problem, meaning, that my selected files would
be placed in the proper order. However, that blasted last file in the
bunch still insists on being the first in the list.

I did find a rather clunky way of dealing with this problem though. I
simply opened up the completed product file in Total Recorder, and
cut the material from the last cd at the beginning, and placed it at
the end of the file, making things right, but I really shouldn't have
to go to all that trouble. I guess I can at least be thankful that at
least I have that option.

Thanks for the suggestion,

Larry

2009-02-06 Thread Constantine

Hi,

I recommend putting that line in the .ini file. I also recommend downloading
NVDA, since that just about always pulls through and if jaws isn't coming
through the right soundcard, NVDA most certainly will.

Subject: Hope you can help with the iMic

Hi Donna, Gary, Alex, et al:

Y'all have been very kind and patient with me. Thanks ever so much! I
don't have individual email addresses so I can't go off-line. Sorry to
those who are disinterested. Here's the situation now that I have the
iMic:

I have a Dell laptop, Windows XP, with a SigmaTel Audio soundcard. I am
usually hooked up to a port replicator which also has its own sound card
called C-Media Headphone Set. I have Jaws 9.0 as the screen reader and
Goldwave as the sound recording program.

To start with, I assume that I should disconnect from the port replicator
and use my laptop with the SigmaTel Audio default card. So before
shutting

down, I should go into Control Panel, Sounds, Audio tab, and check the box
at the bottom that says use only default devices. I then do a shut down.

I attach the line outs from my tape deck into the iMic line in adaptor
plug
and plug that into the line in plug on the iMic. I flip the switch to
line

in on the side of the device. I then unplug the USB port replicator. I
plug in the iMic USB plug and restart the laptop computer.

Will I hear Jaws when it comes on? Do I plug in a set of headphones into
the output jack on the iMic? If I don't get any sound, I will have to
abort. The one thing that I will need to check is that my sound settings
in
control panel and Goldwave are on the iMic for the recording device and
that
the playback settings are on either the iMic for the headphones plugged
into

the iMic or without headphones on the SigmaTel card. But I can't do this
without Jaws.

In the old days when my old device was sometimes working, along with doing
the checkbox in the control panel sounds audio settings, I would bring up
the Jaws 9.0 ini file and insert the following at the last line before the
synth2 line:

Synth1Port=SigmaTel Audio

Cheers,

Peter
