John,

I have two Windows XP computers using the Audiophile 24/96 card from
M-Audio. No, Jaws scripts are not needed to use them successfully and
fully accessibly. The manual is not well written and I needed to read
it five times or so very thoroughly before I fully understood what I
needed. I also had a sighted person describe the interface on three
different times before I got the hang of it. I say all of this
because I am used to reading manuals all the time and figuring
products out. I also am highly comfortable picking through legal
statutes and regulations and analyzing them. Somehow the Audiophile
24/96 documentation was different. The biggest concept I faced is
that recording uses one interface configuration and optimal playing of
sound uses another interface configuration. Additionally, the card is
adjusted on the fourth device slot rather than the first, which threw
me for a loop at first.

I have been extremely pleased with this card and find it delivers far
superior sound compared to one of the Creative cards, which I had with
my first couple of computers.

I'm thinking about the Audio Phial-2496 because I'm getting 2 for the price

I get RCA inputs and outputs.
And plus, I get a mixer that is integrated in to the control panel.
Most everyday sound cards don't have that.
And plus, I get a very big brake from the norm.
My music and movies will sound a whole lot better then they do with my

Re: goldwave questions

2010-05-02 Thread JULIE RODAWAY

Hi Rob

Go into the control properties with F11. Then, look for the volume tab.

After you see the mike volume, there should be an option to check or
uncheck. Don't check it.
Scrolling on, you should see options for stereo mix. Make sure options here
are checked.

This should allow gold wave to capture audio from your soundcard so it
should catch the audio streams from the web, providing you have them running
through that.

Hope this helps. Any clarification needed, get back to me and I'll be
pleased to further assist.

Hi, Julie and all.

Can you kindly tell me how to record streaming audio from the web using
Goldwave? I have looked through the user control preferences tabs and find
no option that allows recording from the web. Perhaps a stream ripper is
required to capture the streaming web audio which is then loaded as a
supported GW file? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Dan.
When you purchased your licensed copy of Goldwave you should have

received
an email containing your product User ID and authorization code

key. These
are then entered in the user control preferences dialog box.

However, I
won't swear to it as I am unable to locate the authorization

codes entry
field in my GW interface. THis is probably because this filed

may have
disappeared after my copy was automaticly validated. At any

rate, I have
found the Goldwave on board help files very helpful in enabling

me to use

the Goldwave record and playback interfaces very effectively and
confidently.

As for your second question, I will defer to others as I am also

curious as
to how to capture a web audio stream with it. This may take a

stream wripper
to capture the streaming audio into a Goldwave supported file

format.

Hopefully we will both get an answer soon.

Hello Frank,
According to what I read about them on their website, the answer to that
question is no.
I don't know this for sure, but there is a strong possibility that some of
them may have XLR jacks on them.

Because the website talks about balanced and unbalanced outputs and inputs.
But what kind of configurations are those balanced and unbalanced outputs
and inputs in, are anyone's guess.

Yes, this is how I have my music organized on my booksense, my Rockbox
player and my PC. On my NLS cartridge, and on the USB memory stick I used
to use with my DTBM, I found I had to place my MP3's in the
Audio+Podcasts so I could move from MP3 file to file on the DTBM. Also,
as I said in a previous note, your BARD books can go in any directory, as
long as you have one book per directory. Looks like the advice I got on
using the $DTB folder came from a Victor Stream user. Here's what it says
on the BARD Talk FAQ at http://www.bardtalk.com/faq.php:

12. Can I move a thumb drive with NLS books between my third party
reading device and my DTB player and have it work with both?
Answer: Yes. The NLS dtbm will locate any NLS books on your thumb drive
regardless of the folder names in which they are placed. If your third
party reading
device requires the NLS books to be in a certain folder, you should place
them branching off that folder if you plan to listen to them using both
the dtbm
and your third party reader. For example, if your third party reader is a
Victor Reader Stream, you would place the NLS books in subfolders below
$VRDTB
on your thumb drive so you could listen to them on both the NLS dtbm and
your Stream. Remember that bookmarks including your current reading
position are
stored on the individual device and will not transfer when you switch the
media between reading devices.

13. Where do I put MP3 files I want to listen to on my DTB player?
Answer: Create a folder on your thumb drive or a writable cartridge
called: audio+podcasts. Note, when creating this folder, use the + sign
between audio
and podcasts. Additional folders may be created under that main folder.
Mp3 files will be played sequentially based on their file names. the NLS
dtbm will
not announce the names of the files because it does not have a built in
text to speech engine.

I've heard that one __must_ have this in order to make MP3 recordings!
But as far as I can tell, I have no lame Encoder on here! Could it be

Hi Rob

Go into the control properties with F11. Then, look for the volume tab.

After you see the mike volume, there should be an option to check or
uncheck. Don't check it.
Scrolling on, you should see options for stereo mix. Make sure options
here are checked.

This should allow gold wave to capture audio from your soundcard so it
should catch the audio streams from the web, providing you have them
running through that.

Hope this helps. Any clarification needed, get back to me and I'll be

Re: M AUDIO SOUND CARD QUESTION REPOST

2010-05-02 Thread Kelly Pierce
The Audiophile 24/96 was introduced in the early 2000s. When I was
shopping for a sound card in the mid-2000s, the M-Audio cards in
higher price ranges had RCA, digital and quarter inch jack output and
inputs. After plowing thousands of dollars into Windows hardware and
software and thousands of hours learning it all, I’m a Windows guy
totally so I have no information on Mac compatibility.

Regarding which high-quality sound card to get today, Jonathan
certainly had a few ideas several weeks ago. I used as my guide the
sound card selected by Dancing Dots for their digital workstation. I
figured they already analyzed the competing issues of accessibility,
price and sound quality and chose a card that fit within this nexus.
When I purchased the Audiophile 24/96, this was the card used in those
workstations. Now Dancing Dots has moved onto another card I believe.
I found this choice to be perfect for my needs and would use the same
method again.

The only drawback is, there are no mike in jacks, so you'll need a

How could I fix this so I can split this long file into several 5 min tracks?

Re: goldwave questions

2010-05-02 Thread Rob Tabor

Hi, Tom.
Tlad I could help you discover that you have the lame MP3 encoder after all.
Unfortunately, I will have to defer to other listers who have experience
using Total Recorder to tell you how many bit rate and sampling rate options
it has. BTW, one of the first things you'll want to do in Goldwave is to set
your record time to unbound. This control is found in the user control
preferences which is accessed with the F11 key. Then type ctrl+ttab to get
to record preferences and tab through this dialog.

Another trap for the unwary with Goldwave is that the video intercept
manager of JAWS may conflict with the video attributes in goldwave which
control how the visual wave form presents itself on screen. I learned the
hard way by having JAWS crash about every 20 minutes or so during normal
record and playback. To head this off, go to the video attributes tab in
your control preferences menu and set any video controls you can to blank.
These changes in video settings has completely resolved the JAWS video
conflict. I don't know what screen reader you use, but it's logical to
surmise that if you have this kind of problem with your screen reader the
cause and the solution will probably be the same.

Good luck with Goldwave and have fun!
Best regards

Hello Rob and list: Yes..that was most helpful in solving this lame
Encoder mystery! I searched..and found that there are four occurrences
of that Lame encoder..I remember someone saying on this list that, in
order to make MP3 files, one _had_ to have the Lame Encoder in order to
do this! There was nothing in the programs menu that indicated that I
had it; nor did I see anything in Add/Remove programs, so I was somewhat
mystified! I know I have recorded and played countless MP3 files..but how
could this be if I didn't have the encoder? Guess it's all in knowing
what the exact name is..and knowing exactly how to go about looking for
it! Also..I thought this was the case concerning Gold Wave (that you
couldn't schedule it to record when you weren't going to be around)..I
actually did download what is supposed to be a trial version of Gold
Wave..but haven't done anything with it yet; I mainly had wanted to get
Gold Wave so I would have more flexibility of changing bit and sample rate
in files if I needed to (Total Recorder will do this)..but as I understand
it, Gold Wave will give you more choices! Is this correct?

Re: goldwave questions

Hi, Julie and list.
Thanks for the instructions on recording a stream from web audio. I'll
experiment and report as to how it goes.

Best regards

Any clarification needed, get back to me and I'll be
pleased to further assist.

Hi, Julie and all.

Can you kindly tell me how to record streaming audio from the web using
Goldwave? I have looked through the user control preferences tabs and
find no option that allows recording from the web. Perhaps a stream
ripper is required to capture the streaming web audio which is then
loaded as a supported GW file? Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Rob Tabor

High Less,
They have all of their sound cards and other products posted on their
website.
http://www.m-audio.com/
I'm thinking about the Audio Phial-2496 because I'm getting 2 for the
price of 1.
I get RCA inputs and outputs.
And plus, I get a mixer that is integrated in to the control panel.
Most everyday sound cards don't have that.
And plus, I get a very big brake from the norm.
My music and movies will sound a whole lot better then they do with my

odyssey 4 series sound card made by Creative Labs.
Also, my recordings will sound a whole lot better too as well.
The only drawback is, there are no mike in jacks, so you'll need a

preamp

for your mike.
My best regards.
 John.

John,

I have two Windows XP computers using the Audiophile 24/96 card from
M-Audio. No, Jaws scripts are not needed to use them successfully

and

fully accessibly. The manual is not well written and I needed to

read

it five times or so very thoroughly before I fully understood what I
The biggest concept I faced is
that recording uses one interface configuration and optimal playing

of

sound uses another interface configuration. Additionally, the card

is

adjusted on the fourth device slot rather than the first, which

threw

me for a loop at first.

I have been extremely pleased with this card and find it delivers

far

superior sound compared to one of the Creative cards, which I had

with

my first couple of computers.

Hello all list members,
I am thinking about buying a couple of M-AUDIO audio phial-2496

sound

cards.
I am buying them strictly for recording purposes.
One of them is gonna be put in to my Windows machine, the other one

is

gonna
be put in to my Mack system when I get it.
But for the Windows machine, do I need Jaws scripts for the control

panel to
make it more assessable for me?
And for the Mack machine, will Voiceover work with the control

panel

right
out of the box?
Thinks in advance!
My best regards.

2010-05-02 Thread Johnny Angel!

Hi,

I was wondering if my messages are actually getting through to the
other list members.

I realize that I had honestly inadvertantly sent an attachment to the
list yesterday asking a question about the lame_enc.dll program and
how to properly install it into mp3 direct cut. When I found out
that I had honestly inadvertantly attached this file to the question
to the list, I was completely surprized about it. I really don't
even know how I went about attaching something to a message. I never
otherwise would have done it. However, I do offer my most sincere
apology to you and to say that I understand and abide to the list
rules. If I was taken off the list for a time, please consider my
apologies as I really need to understand how to use this computer
software for our Christian Bible study group.

Sorry again for the honest mistake and thanks for understanding,

Sincerely,

Johnny Chilelli
