Skype not closing in Windows 7

2010-07-09 Thread Peter Tighe
Hi,

Before I take myself off to the Funny Farm, can anyone confirm that the latest
version of Skype 4.2 will not close or exit in Windows 7 either 32bit or 64 bit?
Is there any solution? Ireluctantly ran Skype inVista compatibility mode to
get around this problem.

Thanks,

Peter

2010-07-09 Thread Rick Alfaro
Nolan,

There is a work around for this if you want to do it. First close down
Skype. Navigate to the skype.exe file under your program files folder and
bring up the properties for it. Go under the compatibility tab and check
the compatibility mode box and set the OS to Vista and click ok. Now your
Skype window will close out like you are used to and won't be in the tab
order any longer. I did this with no ill effects that I could notice and
seems to work fine.

I can vouch for this, as I did it about six months ago. And it seems you

Re: Skype not closing in Windows 7

2010-07-09 Thread Matthew Bullis
Might I recommend a program called Skype Talking? It uses keystrokes to
do its work, rather than bringing up an interface. I open and close Skype
with this program, and you can make other changes in a quicker and more
straightforward way. The program is free from

http://code.google.com/p/skypetalking/
For the problem you describe, you'll want to set the options of Skype
Talking so that when you start and close the program, it will shut down
Skype. I just use control shift alt Q to quit both programs at once. I've
even gone so far as to delete the desktop shortcut for Skype, and I just use
the shortcut for Skype Talking. If you read the documentation, you'll get
all of the control shift alt commands that the program uses. It's wonderful.
Enjoy.

Hi Peter,

Pardon me but what I think u meant was putting skype in the system tray
while u are sign in right ? and if u need to bring skype back to the
foreground, u would just call it from the system tray, just like on windows
xp and vista? If so, its fairly simple. just go to the skype options, under
advance, tab till u hear, keep skype in the taskbar while I'm signed in. its
check by default, just uncheck it, tab to safe, and you are done. hope it
helps.

Thanks.
