Intermittent Live Stream?

2008-01-12 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, list.
I don't know how to phrase this problem of mine, Well, let me say that I am
unable to receive a continuous live stream either from a radio station or from
a television feed. The stream starts and plays for a few seconds and then
stops for several seconds or even for a minute or 2. Then it resumes for a few
seconds and then disappears again, thus it is intermittent rather than
continuous.
I am not sure whether it is a problem with my internet connection, or it has
anything to do with my turning off the pop-up-blocker, or because I disabled
Spybot - Search Destroy in Manage Add-ons, or may be because I installed and
then uninstalled Windows Defender or something else! I am not having this
problem as much in a recorded stream.
Your help is much appreciated and my humble apology if I sound to be hazy and
unclear.
Thanks much!
Regards,
Fazil.

The national broadcaster in South Africa has recently added to its live
streaming with Radio 2000. This station carries a range of programming
including live sport. It seems likely then, that South African home
international cricket will now be available online. All SABC streams can
be reached from http://www.sabc.co.za and following the radio link.

The first test of the South Africa vs. West Indies cricket series,
commences boxing day, December 26. Play begins at 10:30 South African
time. This is 7:30 pm in Eastern Australia which is 8:30 GMT. You can find
a link under the Special Events heading on my page given below.

Listeners in Australia can link to the ABC radio coverage of Australia vs.
India from my page. From outside Australia, I understand that the best
way to reach the ABC radio coverage is from http://www.cricket.com.au/tv.
Start time is 10:30 here, which is 23:30 late Tuesday, GMT.,

The New Zealand vs. Bangladesh ODI series starts also on Boxing day and
can be accessed from NZ Radio Sport, also on my page. Start time is mid
day in NZ, 10:00 am in Eastern Australia or 23:00 Tuesday, GMT.

 My page is at http://members.com.au/stephenjolley/livestreams.

Do have a fantastic Christmas, showered with great listening.

Do a Google on UK proxy. There are a few around. While I haven't tried
 this,
I am also advised that Proxify offers a UK proxy at
http://www.proxify.co.uk. This costs, but it may be more reliable than the
ones that come and go which are free.

Hello. hit f12 to do that and broas for the folder containing the file and
after you do that find the file in the list view and hit enter. you need

2006-11-09 Thread Fazil M.
I have the multimedia keyboard. Until last week, when I hit the player
button on the key board, it would activate Winamp, since I installed Winamp
5.31, this button activates Windows Media Player. How can I have it start
Winamp, not WMP, please?

Thanks!

 hi
Let me clarify this just a bit since the last message was a bit
brief. If you have no other audio players installed on your system
with the exception of Windows Media player which comes with XP,
installing Winamp *should* make it the default player for all its
file types. if this is not the case then do the following.

 1. Press control p for the preferences.

 2. in the tree view, press your home key and then arrow down to file
 types.

 3. tab over and you will see a list of several file types. If you
tab again, you will hear associated file types all button. Press the
 space bar on that.
This will make Winamp play all of its supported file types, making
 Winamp your default audio player.
 4. press your tab key until you hear, close button and press the
 space bar. That's it.

Of course, if you encounter a file type that Winamp will not
recognize, then another player you may have may come up. It is
possible to make Winamp play more file types than it initially
supports, but this requires the instalation of plugins, which you
probably don't want to do. But that's the easiest way of doing this.

 Hope this helps.

Hi. Actually, every version of Winamp that's been released is
accessible with JAWS. So no matter what version you download you'll
be pretty safe. Of course I'd recommend version 5.31 which is the
most current version. As ever, just remember, when you install it,
to make sure that modern skin support is not! selected during your
install. If you leave modern skin support unchecked, all will be well.

Why can't I play that?

2006-09-23 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, List.

I am trying to play some video clips at:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Afzal+Bashir+Bajwa

These are the video clips of an evening of poetry, where some poets from
India/Pakistan recited their poetry in their languages before the audience.
The name of a poet is a link, and my understanding is that it can be played by
activating that link, isn't it?
When I activate the name of a poet, it takes me to another screen but doesn't
play that.
For instance, the name mentioned in the above link is Afzal Bashir Bajwa, and
when I activate the
Afzal Bashir Bajwa link, it doesn't play.
Am I doing something wrong?
Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks much!
Regards.

Re: Realplayer, to install or not to install

2006-09-10 Thread Fazil M.
I am still using old RealPlayer Plus who has been faithfully serving me for
the last 6 or 7 long years. I have not upgraded since then under the

Jonathan, I would agree. I have tried the alternatives and they don't
 play
all the possible Real Player streams available at the high sound quality
 that Real Player offers.

I just installed Real Player on a new computer about a month ago. It is
important to pay very close attention when installing the program, as it
does ask if you want to install other things, like the Google toolbar.
 this
is totally optional, but a mindless click through installation will
 install
all of this junk. also, I spent about an hour configuring the program
 after
installing it. I deselected all file types except Real Player and
 disabled
other features that made Real Player the default player each time the
computer started. I also disabled the browser.

A mindless instillation and lack of configuration I think will likely
 result
in disappointment by a blind user. If this is done, there will be many
hours of enjoyable listening. besides the hurricane station, some other
broadcasts are only available in Real Audio. these include radio
Netherlands, Air America Radio, and Bloomberg.

Hi Lynn, I have installed RealPlayer on many systems and never seen a
negative consequence, at least not for many years. There was a time back
 in
the late 90s where RealPlayer did install certain things that some
 customers
objected to. Those days are long behind them. The install allows you to
 have
good control over what file types it handles, and I think it's an
 excellent
 player.

Having a very strong interest in hurricanes and severe weather events, I
would like to take advantage of the live coverage from
http://www.hurricanecity.com. However, this requires that I install Real
Player on my PC. Considering the fact that the installation of Real
 Player
on my previous home PC messed my system up terribly, and the fact that I
just watched the installation of Real Player wreck several PC's at work
recently, I'm not feeling very good about trying it on this new and very
well-functioning PC. Is there anything I can do to avoid the
 intrusiveness
of this program, the spyware it installs on your PC and its tendency to
 just
muck things up horribly? I am wondering specifically about Real
Alternative, although the research I have done shows that this program
 does
not do streaming audio, which is what I would need for Hurricane City.
Actually, since Florence is going to hit Bermuda soon and I would hate
 like
heck to miss a good hurricane, I would appreciate any help with this
 ASAP.
If I did have to install RP, is there anything I can do to keep it from
 causing mayhem on my system?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Does DVD Need To Be Converted?

2006-06-01 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, listers!
I am sorry for not knowing the appropriate terminology to put my question in.
In the days of VCR, when we would get a video-tape from UK or South Africa, we
use to convert it to a different system prior to watching it here in USA.
Similarly,
they had to convert it to their system when they got a video tape from us before
they could watch it. I don't know what these systems are called, something
like, NTS to Pal or something similar.
My question is, do we still have to do similar conversion if we get or send dvd
to or from UK or South Africa, before playing this DVD on our DVD-Player?
I could be wrong, but I was thinking that with so much advancement in
video-technology,
the need for conversion is simply eliminated!
I'm very sorry if I sound confusing and vague.
Thanks much!
Regards.

in that recorder source setting, tab to the change button. Make sure
microphone is highlighted, then choose an appropriate quality level.
 Total
Recorder's help is confusing here, but my experience showed me to look for
 a
program running at 8 kHz. There's more than one 8 kHz choice. You'll
notice one list with mostly word names. Skip that and tab to the next
 list.
At each item in this second list you'll need to tab back and forth for the
 numbers.

Once you've made your choice, Make sure you press OK there and then tab
through for the box where you'll assign your new setting a name. I gave
 my
first experiment the name mike1, then mike2. Then, though it may not be
intuitive, tab again to OK. Pressing enter on your chosen name won't save
 either it or your setting.

You would also be advised to follow the help instructions under quality,
the word you should start typing in once you open help and press alt-i for
index. I believe you tab once, possibly twice, after typing that word for
the topics list. The quality of sound help file recommends you download a
Lame file not included in the TR package. I had to find that file by
 doing
a Google search. It enables MP3 recording, which expands your TR recorder
 source choices.

Sorry, I'm making this sound complicated. I did it myself the other day
 and
it took hours to figure it all out. I hope I've made these suggestions
 clear enough.

 although
microphone is just working fine in Window's Sound Recorder.

 Any suggestions, please?

Fazil! Stand alone CD recorder / players have been around for years.
I have one here that I bought maybe five years ago before I had a computer
 with a built-in CD writer.
My wife uses a stand alone DVD recorder / player to record television
 shows.

Re: Should It Play An Audio CD?

2006-03-28 Thread Fazil M.
Thanks much, Chris, I got another question. When I create an audio-cd, not
a data cd,ok, so when I create an audio-cd out of all the *.wav files,
using my Roxio5.30, in the recording dialog, there are set of radio-buttons
regarding the finalization of the cd and the finalization of the cession.
In order to play that cd in the home-stereo, in the car and on a portable
regular cd-player, should I finalize both, the cd and the cession?
Thanks! My apology if I sound vague.

 Hi Fazil
Yes it will. If you make a cd using .wav files, and you make sure
that you produce an audio cd, not a data cd, but an audioCD, you will
 be just fine.
Remember, for audio cds, make sure you choose audio when you burn them.

Burning Audio cd in Roxio5.30?

2006-03-26 Thread Fazil M.
Hi.
I got a question about burning an audio-cd by using Roxio5.30.
I tried to burn an audio cd. I successfully added all the tracks to the
cd-project and I was ready to burn the cd. When I got the recording dialog, I
was on the Start-button, I thought well, let me check out all the available
options before activating the Start-Button. I came to a set of 4-radio buttons
regarding the finalization of the cession and the cd, instead of selecting the
default radio-button, I checked the radio-button which said something like
finalize the cd and the cession, and hit Start-button. My cd was burn
successfully. I was able to play all the 6 tracks it in Winamp as well as in
Windows Media Player, however, I could not play this cd in Cd DA Extractor6x,
where I always play all the audio cds.
I am not sure whether this cd would play in the car-cd-player or in the home
stereo as I have access to none of those.
I personal feel that the cd did not play in cd-da Extractor6 because I did not
select the appropriate radio-button when selecting those radio-buttons
regarding the finalization of the cession and the cd, what do you think? Your
help is much appreciated.
Thanks!
Regards,
Fazil.

Re: Burning Audio cd in Roxio5.30?

2006-03-26 Thread Fazil M.
Correction/Addition.
In my original message, I said that I was unable to play the cd in
Cd-Da-Extractor, I was wrong. In order to play a cd in cd-da-extractor, I
have to be in Cd-Ripper tab of the program, where I was not when I sent the
message initially. When I realized this mistake and played it in the right
tab, it played just fine. Now my question is, would I be able to play it in
the regular cd-player?
Thanks!

Regards,
Fazil.

 Fazil,

Yes you can rip a disk to your hard drive using Easy CD Creater 5.
 1. Put Start Easy CD Creater 5. Put the disk you want to copy to your
hard drive in your cdrom drive. You may want to hold down the sift key
to keep the autoplay from starting to play the disk.

 2. First go to the File Menu and selct adio or music project from the
new project menu. Once the disk comes up with the tracks on your disk,
select them with a control+a for all or just the tracks you want.

 3. Go to the Track Menu (alt+t). Hit the letter f or arrow down to
convert audio file and hit enter. This will place you into a multitab
control where you can give the file a name, select the form or format of
the file to be created and the folder into which you can send the files.

 4. Tab to the convert or save button and hit it. It will hum for a
little while and when it stops, you're done. 5. Make sure you have the
CD/DB control in, I think, the Tools Menu checked if you want the
program to locate the names of the disk tracks for you automatically.

 Good luck.

Bit And Bit Rate?

2006-03-06 Thread Fazil M.
Hi.
Is bit and bit-rate the same thing in terms of recording?
Usually, the mp3 songs are 128 bits and mp3-speeches are 16 to 48 bits, can I
say that the bit-rate of the song is 128 and that of the speech is 48 or 40?
Thanks!

Re: Total Recorder: Appending To A File

I always append to an existing file in Total Recorder4x standard with no

 Hello,

In Total Recorder, does anyone know if it is possible to append further
recordings to a file which already exists, or would I have to create a new
file and join the two together? Is it even possible to join two files in
TR? I have done it in Goldwave but am not sure whether it's possible in
 TR
 as well.

 Thanks,

 Caroline.

Thanks for that little tip. I was under the impression that Sound Recorder
could not handle files larger than 2 or 3 minutes. My files are quite

About 20 mb each. They are recorded on a PDA.

 Hi Kiran,
If you are not dealing with very large files,
you already have a sound editor on your Windows machine.
If you are just looking to delete portions of a wav file, Sound Recorder
 will do this nicely.
There is a size limit of about 76mb with sound recorder.
If your files are smaller than that then you are in business.
You can find it by going to the start menu, then programs, then
 accessories,
 then entertainment.

 Hi Fazil,
Yes, but you are limited to how much editing you can do.
You can only load and edit .wav files,as long as they are smaller than
 76mb.
It's handy for chopping up files, and changing sample rates etc,
but it is by no means a serious sound editing application.

Blind followers of international cricket played in Australia this summer
will also have access to what many around the world can watch on TV as the
 ABC
will be audio streaming its radio commentaries.
The ICC Super Series continues tomorrow Friday October 7 at 2:15 pm
Australian Eastern time, which is 4:15 (ten hours ahead of) universal
 time.
Go to abc.net.au/cricket where you will find links to an audio treat on
 your PC.
Hopefully, this summer, all of the international cricket from Australia
will be available online anywhere in the world.

Bruce, I vaguely remember something about getting rid of advertisements
 in
 Real Player 10.5.
I believe it was something to do with the accessibility options or
configuring the player for visually impaired.
I believe there might be a pop-up blocker one can use that can get rid of
 the ads.
After playing around for a while in this area, I no longer seem to
 see-(hear) the advertisements.

Fazil! Your audio files have a sample rate: 44.1 Kilohertz, 22
Kilohertz or any other value. You are trying to combine files with
different sample rates. They all have to be the same sample rate.
To change the sample rate of a file in Sound Forge:

! Open the file in Sound Forge
! Press alt-p for the Process menu
! Press s for Resample
! Press tab once
! Edit the value to the one you want
! Press Enter

Appending Files in Sound forge7

2005-08-18 Thread Fazil M.
Hi.
I was trying to combine 6 smaller files in to one large file by appending the
rest of the files to file number one, using Sound Forge7. Everything was fine
up to file number 5, in file number 6, however, I got the following dialog box:

Sony Sound Forge 7.0
The source sample rate is higher than the destination sample rate. This
difference in sample rates will cause the source data to play slower
and sound lower pitched in the final mix.
Sample rates can be changed while preserving pitch using the Resample function
under the Process menu.
Are you sure you want to continue?
Yes No

I really don't know what this dialog means, can I really match the sample rates
of the source file and the destination file? If yes, how could this be done,
please?
I do extremely appreciate for your help, and step-by-step instructions in
simple English would really be helpful.

Thanks!
