RE: Humanwear Victor Reader Stream Trek
Good point you make about those seconds wasting time. Today, so much time can be wasted deleting crap emails or social media stuff, that wastes time in business or study. Especially as it takes us longer to identify a not wanted message than a sighted person. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Brian Olesen Sent: Friday, November 10, 2017 8:14 AM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List'Subject: SV: Humanwear Victor Reader Stream Trek Hey Mary, You are so perfectly right, and to tell you the truth it's not only blind people who feels this way. But fascion is playing many of it's tricks on people you know. Also a dedicated device for special needs is wonderful. For example with a Victor you don't really need to care about power loss or battery drainage. Charge it once every second day, and you can read on and on as long as you like. Also manipulating the audio is a time consuming process. Lets say you need to go to a certain page in a daisy book with touch, or find a special fraze. This is technically speaking possible, but will always and I mean always take much longer with touch then with regular keys. If you're a student and is planning to study for 5 years these seconds becoming minutes becoming hours, becoming days, actually counts against the biological human clock, and would be a great unnecessary waist of precious time. Yes off course I do own the app Voice Dream Reader, and loves it, but believe me. I use my Stream 95 % of the time instead. I could use my nice Hims U2, and honestly don't know why I don't. Maybe because of it's size. The good thing about Victor is it has real buttons. No need for voice command. That’s why say it should be an adjunct if they did it. But doesn’t the stream run on Linux? My guess is there aren’t any APIs that would let them use, for instants, Alexa. For my money, with the exception of doing things on the actual device, his voice assistance are vastly overrated. More often than not, you get something that makes you look on the web for what they found, or you get a non-response. We are definitely not in the Star Trek days, so the fact that human where hasn’t come out with something actually like a home or an echo makes perfect sense to me. If they just came out with one of the speaker things, nobody would buy it. Why would you want to buy a specialized speaker made by humanware, when the mainstream ones are after all voice activated. What possible value add it could there be? That’s why I say having some kind of voice deal that would actually let you use your device with voice under the right circumstances could be good. They talked trach about blue tooth. I mean just to say that they didn't seem keen to use it. So I guess it's some kind of wireless like wireless headphones and keyboards use. Which for distance is much better. Leo Laporte and Andy Anatco were pissed about the jack. They kept insisting that they could have kept it. But that would mean the phone would have to be wider at best. Right? AAlso I agree with Shiller time to cut the cord. Cords always tangle especially the cheep spegetty cord like Apple themselves use for the ear pods. Or you could axidentally step on them and break something like I've done to my Bose OE2I head phone kable. Stuff like that. The headphones socket has gone to make way for another speaker - thus stereo speakers which should dramatically improve the sound of the phone - and that can only be a plus. According to the blurb I read the iPhone comes with two very nice additions, a lightning dock to 3.5MM headphones adapter and a set of Airbuds, interesting to know whether these use AirPlay, Bluetooth or yet another standard? I wasn’t presented with much information on them. No mention of atpX unfortunately, at least we have the dock where we can plug in DAC’s if better sound is what we’re after or we have AirPlay. I’ll still be holding onto my iPhone 6 having spent a small fortune on the Arcam DAC . ** Those of a positive and enquiring frame of mind will leave the rest of the halfwits in this world behind.

But in thinking of what it will mean for others, I think it is a stupid idea at this time and, if it is just to make the damned phone a hair thinner, it is clearly not worth it and is just another money-making angle for Apple. Re: Goldwave question
Hi Colin, Thanks for this info you posted. I have wanted to do this saving a file that has been marked with several regions or cues into several separate files, for instance when recording a whole LP and breaking it into files. I thought one could do this in Sound forge. I have SF10, but cannot find how to do it. SF tells me that Insert Regions is not available. If anyone knows how to do it in SF I would appreciate the info. Peter Scanlon. . . From: Colin Howard Sent: Monday, September 21, 2015 1:23 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Goldwave question Greetings, If you want to save parts of a file but not the whole as individual items, select each area in tern, by marking start and end with start and end markers, then in the file menu there is a save selection as, give it a name and save. If you require to save the whole file as tracks, such as if you've a concert and would like to save each item as a track, this is when the cue-markers become useful. In this case, you ensure first you are at the start of the file, once you begin to work with cue-markers, you cannot make any changes to the file, so ensure first, all edits Etc. are finished and the original file saved. also, be aware it is always wisest to work with files uncompressed, i.e when still in their .wav (or other) formats, not .mp3 or other compressed types. The more processing a file has undergone, i.e compresion and de-compression, the more sound degredation will occur and once quality has been lost, it cannot be retrieved. So, having made sure the file is as you want it, go to it's start and insert the first cue-mark, control with q. Now go on through the file, stopping where the next cue-mark is to be placed, I always first make sure by placing a start marker i.e left bracket then ensuring cursor is at start marker by pressing my home key, then issue control with q. Continue until you've reached the start for the last track and issue the control with q. Now, you are ready to split the file into it's items. In the edit menu, go to the cue-markers function which I think is open menu and cursor up to the sub-menu, arrow right into the submenu and down to the split file. Note, you can change cue-markers as there is a list of the ones you have set but I strongly advise keeping it simple for now, go to the split file within the menu. I cannot remember the tabs here, think they are self-explanatory, eventually you will find a save button, enter on this and ensuring you save into a location you want, allow it to work. You should end up with a set of tracks, what their names will be depends on how you process these tabs, but I tend to make then save as Track nnn (the first being 001) into a folder set aside for such matters. Then (I use Winamp) play the folder ensuring you have saved what you intended, if happy, close the file from which you saved the tracks but unless you want to keep the cue-markers, don't save the file. Cue-markers cannot be saved in a file other than, so far as I am aware, .wav format, if you try and save them, GW will warn you no way! but they can be saved in a file of the same name if I recall rightly, with the exdtension of ".cue" this will happen in the same folder in which the file from which you extracted the tracks, is saved. Remember, I am using GoldWave V5.70, the last which works with WindowsXP how V6.anything differs, as of now, I know not for though I have V6.14, have not yet installed on my W7 machine.
Re: Goldwave question
Hi Colin, I have installed Gold Wave 6.15 and Jaws Gold wave scripts version 5. Should I install an earlier version of Gold Wave or are there newer scripts? Peter Scanlon. For an example of what I mean, go to http://www.formatchange.com, go to changes by city and just for fun, choose chicago. You'll see different links for different stations. the first one says 103.9 the groove debuts. Sony Creative Software have never been interested in accessibility and I doubt they ever will be whereas other products have come along where the developers are interested in accessibility and take note of user feedback, there's a lot of competition out there. A classic case in point is Sonar, I know someone who spent literally thousands over time on Sonar this and Sonar that, upgrades and all the rest of it. I encouraged him to try Reaper and.. well.. he wished he'd known about it earlier and he's furious with himself for spending a fortune on Sonar, of course its not his fault but I do give him credit for having the courage to try another product and just not blindly follow on. Giannakopoulos Sent: Saturday, May 23, 2015 11:53 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Replay Radio time zones Hi Peter It depends. If you added the scheduled entry yourself manually using a stream URL you found and copied to your clipboard and used the add show button within RR9 and if you know the start time for your station or show then you can do as you wish with the local time and UTC. The start recording time and UTC should be the same for your time zone. For example, if I add a radio station or show manually myself and I know the start time is for Eastern time zone USA and Canada which is -5 hours and I know its starts at 7:00 PM EST / 1900 hours I would put 7:00 PM for the start recording time and check to be sure the UTC combo box reflects my time zone which is -5 hours USA and Canada. So to recap here your show or station starts at 7:00 PM you would put 7:00 PM and put the TZ time zone to your local time zone also. If you add a show or station from the replay guide use those default settings except when you know the TZ time zone is incorrect. Say I add this station from California that is in the Pacific time zone which is -8 hours and I see the UTC within the scheduler saids -5 hours then I will correct it myself. -Original Message- From: Peter Scanlon Sent: Saturday, May 23, 2015 5:17 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Replay Radio time zones Hi, Wen setting up a recording, should you always set the time zone field to the time you are in, or the time zone in which the program originates? Date: 3 November 2014 6:31:44 am AEDT Hello everybody For the last couple of weeks I have been working with the developers of a software package called “RadioBOSS” to make their software accessible. I wrote them a long report outlining the accessibility requirements and, within 48 hours of my doing so, they have produced a beta which removes the accessibility issues almost completely. Their formerly graphically drawn boxes are now standard group box controls, and it is possible to navigate between them via the keyboard. The software has excellent audio processing, oodles of keyboard hot keys, built-in streaming/DSP encoders, (including Icecast 2.0 and Shoutcast 2.0), full support for uploading playlists to a remote server, full song requester facilities, accurate top-of-the-hour rotation timing, multiple file formats supported, on-the-fly recording of broadcasts, multiple simultaneous input/output sound devices, dynamically updated music libraries, Copy Paste queuing, automatic playlist generation suitable for full 24/7 automation, and much much more. The software comes in three different flavours, depending upon your needs. But even the most expensive “Advanced” license is priced at just $199.00 US which, in comparison even to things like Station Playlist Creator and Sam Broadcaster, is a very affordable price. Indeed, to license SPL and Studio Pro you’re looking at $450 for the two apps together. This comes as an all-in-one application and is, as I say, cheaper than Station Playlist Creator Pro on its own. I shall continue to work with the developers to further accessibility. But it shows what can be achieved if one approaches a developer in the right way. I went to them politely and demonstrated my willingness to play the game, so to speak, by purchasing 4 licenses for the Advanced edition which can be used on my four machines here to broadcast. I am excited as to the prospects of using this software, and once we iron out a few more of the issues, I am confident that we will end up with a very accessible and highly effective means of putting one’s programming to air. If you immediately rush off to download it, I should warn you against downloading the main release setup version on their website. It is not fully accessible at all. Many of the tabs and panels are not available in that version. If you want to download and try the beta, you’ll need to access their Forum and download as a guest from there. As for the new kid on the block, it has a potential to be a good alternative to SPL - it's far from perfect, but it's getting there. Anyway have fun and I'll answer your questions where and if I can, if I can't answer them then I'll put you in touch with people who can. I wanted to forward the original eMail on this subject to the list however the author of same - as it stands - hasn't given me permission to do so as yet and I respect that. It is hoped that the product will be available with full accessibility soon, the developers are actually using JAWS to test their product to see just how accessible they can make it. The other good news will be the price, instead of $499 that you pay for the full Station Playlist suite you'll only need to pay $199 for the laternative. Those who are helping the programmers are professional DJ'S and Broadcasters in their own right having worked in the field for longer than 10 years so they know their stuff. I hope to be able to bring the list good tidings in the next couple of weeks though someone else may beat me to it by forwarding a press release smile.
