Jim I'm wondering, does a better sound card improve the quality of a recording? Besides the benefits of audio output quality, how else can I benefit from purchasing one of these high end sound cards? Jim, Sound quality output is very important as I want the richest sound possible. On the other hand, I don't think these cards have anything to do with actual recording quality, correct? Re: Delta soundcard problem.
Hello list members, I've been wanting to upgrade to a better sounding sound card too. I read some stuff on the net about a mother board that uses vacuum tubes to transmit the audio signal to your computer speakers. From what it says, I guess it's using these little 12AX7 tubes. The only questions I have about this is, how does this really work? Tubes are power demanding, and most computers as far as desktops go, they are running 200 to 400 watt power supplies. And how good do these vacuum tube based mother boards really sound? If it will give me a better sound, I'd like to know that. If it won't give me a better sound then what I'm already getting from what I'm using right now, I'd like to know that too. Last time I checked, these boards were going for $250 each for a hole unit. If it doesn't deliver what it claims, then maybe I'd better not spend the money. Thinks in advance! Re: Delta soundcard problem.
High end sound cards have less of a noise floor than the sound blaster live which is about minus 60 DB when the better cards are usually around minus 90 or so. Also the better cards have better shielding from noise generated electronically by hard drives and aren't as affected by unbalanced grounds as the sound blaster live. I know, I have and still use a sound blaster live. Re: Delta soundcard problem.
Keith: Just a couple of things to note here: 1. I chose the Delta card because I'm the JAWS script writer for the Delta Panel software and I know that I can achieve total accessibility to the interface. There certainly are better soundcards out there but this one will work for me. 2. I'm not sure if you are interested in the Delta 1010 or the less expensive version called Delta 1010 LT. In any case, complete information on both cards can be found at: www.m-audio.com Cheers. - Original Message - From: Keith Gillard [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 7:39 AM Subject: Re: Delta soundcard problem. Hello: I am using JAWS however, as the creator of the DeltaPannel JFW scripts, I can tell you that that is not the problem. Actually, the software itself performs as if everything was fine. It's just that the software commands have no affect on the soundcard itself. The thing may have bit the dust. Re: Delta soundcard question
Many thanks Brian, Jerry and Matthew. Your responses were much appreciated. Following on from Matthew's comments, would it be possible to set the card's parameters to record at 16 bit, 44.1khz for subsecquent transfer to cd? Or would a recording made at 24 bit, 96khz simply loose the extra quality when burnt to the cd format. In other words, would some sort of convertion be neccessary? Many thanks, Tim, Bangor, N. I'm not exactly sure about this, but there are detailed instructions and tips if you search on google for the FAQ on taping with laptops. Delta soundcard question
Hi! I'm looking to purchase a new soundcard which will enable me make high quality recordings from an external source, say a digital sattelite receiver directly on to the hard drive of my computer. I also want to connect the PC to my hi-fi system, so would require a card which will deliver high quality output. Going on there excellent reputation, I've been looking at the Delta range from M-audio, in particular the Audiophile 2496. Would this card satisfy my requirements in both respects? or would any of the others in the Delta range be a better alternative. Would be most grateful for any opinions, as I'm fairly new to sound recording. Thanks, Tim, Bangor, N. Re: Delta soundcard question
Hi Tim, The delta cards from M-audio are all really really good semi professionel cards. Maybe I'd buy a delta66 just to get the fine breakout box, where you can connect and disconnect your cables easily via the very solid plugs it has. But you'll also find the audiofile being a wonderful card. But I hate creeping around on the floor switching cables all the time. grin.
