Subject: Problem with Windows Media Player

 Hi there,

I'm having a problem with my Windows Media player, and I've already
 reinstalled it.

Basically, when I open it and want to go to one of the menus in the menu
bar, it won't do anything. I hit the Alt key to get to the menu bar, and
 it
won't do a single thing. I can tab around to various buttons, but as far
 as
accessing menus, it doesn't do anything.
Also, I've been able to play files OK, but when I try and stream a certain
file off of a web site, and I get a message dealing with the file not
 being
able to open due to a file transfer protocol problem. I know absolutely
nothing about any of that, so any help would be appreciated. Also, up
 until
a few weeks ago when this problem started, I had no trouble streaming
 these
particular files from the website, so I have a feeling something's wrong
 with the Windows Media Player.

RE: Problem with Windows Media Player

2006-02-13 Thread Jouie
About the problem that you cannot access the menu by pressing alt, right,
and in pc cursor mode, I experienced that problem too. All I did is I
changed the cursor to JAWS cursor and single left clicked any item in the
menu. For example, file, edit, view and so on. Then back your cursor to PC
mode then again press the alt key and you will be fine. Weird huh! But
there's nothing wrong on trying this yourself. It's just a suggestion
through experience.

Subject: Problem with Windows Media Player

 Hi there,

I'm having a problem with my Windows Media player, and I've already
 reinstalled it.

Basically, when I open it and want to go to one of the menus in the
menu bar, it won't do anything. I hit the Alt key to get to the menu
bar, and it won't do a single thing. I can tab around to various
buttons, but as far as accessing menus, it doesn't do anything.
Also, I've been able to play files OK, but when I try and stream a
certain file off of a web site, and I get a message dealing with the
file not being able to open due to a file transfer protocol problem.
I know absolutely nothing about any of that, so any help would be
appreciated. Also, up until a few weeks ago when this problem
started, I had no trouble streaming these particular files from the
website, so I have a feeling something's wrong with the Windows Media
 Player.

Re: problem with windows media player.

2004-06-23 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Christopher,
Well, I'm wondering if the fact that I'm running Windows 98 SE and Winamp
2.93 or whatever is the problem. I upgraded Windows Media from version 7
and can't remember whether I was prompted to install kodeks or not--if I did
it was just a matter of following prompts, but I have no idea what I was
doing, smile. This may be a coincidence, but when first installing total
Recorder I had a driver conflict with winamp and could not get it to work
with software speech and instead had to use my auxiliary hardware synthe,
but have heard that it may work better with XP. Not sure why there should
be less tweaking with XP in general but I get the impression that is true.
Oh well, glad it works for someone at least. If you know anything about
kodeks please advise. Many thanks.

Maureen,
Hi, I do remember you posting about this recently but accidentally deleted
your message. Can you repost again about what you tried and/or what you
know about this, also what version of Windows you have? I'm thinking I
either messed up something when upgrading or else just can't do this with
Windows 98. It's not an insurmountable problem, I just wish I understood
why it doesn't work. I know I had a heck of a time associating RealPlayer
files with winamp until I found the Tara plugin, so maybe there's a plugin
out there I need to find? Anyway, I have no great expectations, not being
the savviest techie on the block, lol.

btw, just wanted to say I enjoy your show on acb-radio, though I can't
usually catch the live stream. Take care.

Re: problem with windows media player.

2004-06-22 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Kevin,
I'm wondering if this is the problem I'm having also, smile. My situation
is a little more complicated, though ... I have recorded a presentation
within the Ivocalize chat client. The default recording settings allow two
files to be saved, one with an .htm extension which opens in IE and seems to
stream. This is about a 5kb file. The other is a larger file with a .wma
extension. When I try to open this file Winamp comes up but will not play
it. I have all file types selected in the Winamp preferences and .wma is
definitely checked, but Winamp will not play it and does not show any error
messages that I have found. Also, Windows Media Player cannot seem to find
the file, which I don't understand. In any case, I'm assuming I should be
able to play it in either one player or the other but can't get it working.
I saw a similar question on another list where someone was trying to play
.wma files in Winamp but having a similar problem, so does anyone know how
this is done? Hope this makes some sense.

Yes, that's what I have, forgot to say so, smile. i've never had much luck
with Windows Media Player, guess I need to try testing it with another
stream to see if it is working at all. But my question really was whether
it is possible to play WMA files through Winamp as the default player or
whether to just accept that Media Player will grab them. In any case, as I
said, I can play the smaller file just fine as long as I allow it to log
onto the website but not the other one which is supposedly just tied to the
player, does that make sense? I must be missing something.

for my part, and I'm new to all of this, I'm running Winamp 5.03a, Windows
XP and Windows Media Player 9. I never had to do anything special to get
Winamp to play .wma files. I could just bring them up in winamp with the
l or shift-l keys or once I told winamp to associate itself with all of my
audio files, I could just click on the .wma files and they'd play in
winamp just fine.

it is possible to play WMA files through Winamp as the default player or
whether to just accept that Media Player will grab them. In any case, as
I
said, I can play the smaller file just fine as long as I allow it to log
onto the website but not the other one which is supposedly just tied to
the
player, does that make sense? I must be missing something.
