Re: logitech USB mic/headset not working?

2005-12-27 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Chris,

In the skype software, itself, have you selected the headset as your input
and output devices? Sounds as if you might have the headset selected as your
windows default device, but not your skype device.

Subject: logitech USB mic/headset not working?

Hi all! I spent a little of my Christmas cash and bought a Logitech USB
headset/mic combo today. When I got it home and plugged it into my USB
port, all went correctly, windows saw everything it needed to see and it's
being recognized. In the instructions, it says to make sure the headset
 is
your default playback device in windows which, when it's plugged in, it
is. When I unplug it, it goes back to my sound card. While it's plugged
 in
to the USB port for some reason, certain sounds come through the headset,
and other sounds come through the speakers. for example on a skype call,
the person speaking comes through my speakers, but software speech from
JAWS and other sounds can be heard on my headset. Not only that, but
 people
tell me that the volume level is very low. I wanted to see if I could
track the problem down, so I went into the windows volume control and made
sure the mic was checked in playback. it wasn't, so I checked it and the
mic level was only at like 19% so I kicked it up to 70% so I could test
it. So when I did that, i made a call to echo 123 on Skype and tested it.
I couldn't hear myself, which obviously means something is wrong, but I'm
not sure what it is. I even made sure that the mic was unmuted in
playbackso i'm not sure what the deal is.

If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this, I'd very much appreciate it!

hello chris, i think the problem is that the settings in the skype software
needs changing. open sky-pe and go to tools then options arrow down to sound
devices and change the settings. your headset should appear inj the drop
down list. change it to the headset and then try a test call.

cheers

Re: logitech USB mic/headset not working?

2005-12-27 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Chris, As far as your not hearing yourself when you call echo123: if you
have the same Logitech headset I do, there is a round disc-shaped control
dangling from the plug-in chord? The button on this control is a toggle
on/off for the mic. There's no non-visual way to tell whether it's toggled
on or off. It suddenly occurred to me smacks her head, that, maybe, the
reason you don't hear yourself on echo123 is that you have this control
toggled off. Try toggling it, and see if you hear yourself on echo123.

This toggle control is the one thing I hate about my headset. It's always
getting toggled by accident, and, of course, I don't realize that until I
place a call and the party can't hear me, though I can hear them.

Hope this IS your problem, as it's the easiest to track down and fix.

BTW, if you find the headset shouting or whispering at you, the easiest
place to adjust this is on the Voice tab of Sounds and Audio Devices, in
control Panel.

Finally, if you decide you want JAWS, and everything else besides your skype
calls, to come through your speakers, not the headset (That's the way I
prefer it.), let me know, and I'll give you the instructions on editing
jwf.ini, so that the headset does not steal away the output of eloquence,
every time you reboot your computer.

Good luck.

Blessed Be,

Dana

Chris,

Just so you realize, you have to do this for *both* your skype input and
output devices, in separate drop-downs.
