I think .RAR is akind of hyperzip, or a superset of the .ZIP format. Have
had good luck with the program Winwrar or Winrar having seen it with and
without the extra W.

There's a liberal evaluation period and it's about $39.00. They actually
got back to me on a complaint made during the EVal period.

Re: Need Help with RAR Files

2009-02-02 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hi.

Yup, this is exactly the case. When you have a file with the .rar
extention, it's exactly like, or extremely close to a .zip file,
which means it looks like it's only one file but when you open it, it
actually may contain several other smaller files. On Sendspace for
example, people have been known to use both .rar and .zip files to
send large files to keep them smaller. It's much easier to send one
much larger file than having to send several smaller ones. The .rar
or .zip files you see aren't meant to be converted, at least not when
you first see them. After you extract them, or unzip them in the
case of winzip, or XP's native unzipping support, you can do whatever
you like with the files contained in the archive. But you can't
actually convert a .rar file into something else.

At 04:46 PM 2/2/2009, you wrote:

Re: need help with rar files.

2009-01-29 Thread Richard Claypool
rar files are not an audio type. ther'es a good tutorial on google if you'd
like it to help you learn how to use google. It's a very powerful search
engine that will help you find answers more quickly and easily. Infact,
it's so well-known now that it's become a verb in the english language.

so, if you visit
www.google.com
and type in rar wikipedia
you'll see the following
RAR Filename extension .rar, .rev, formerly .r00, .r01, etc.
 Internet media type application/x-rar-compressed
application/octet-stream

 Developed by Eugene Roshal
 Type of format Archive format

In computing, RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data
compression, error recovery, and file spanning.[1] It was developed by a
Russian software engineer,

so, it's like zip. the latest versions of winzip handle rar, seven zip,
from what I can tell, has ishues with unrarring multi-part archives.

A RAR file is a compressed archive, not unlike ZIP. You need to extract
your media files from the RAR file first. I use 7-Zip from
http://www.7-zip.org/ to manage RAR files, but there are a lot of choices.

If you do a Google search for 7zip, you will get this very good free archive
program that among other formats handles .rar format. Rar is an archive
format like .zip. You have to unpack the files before you can play them.
There are lots of other programs that will do the job as well.

Winrar will let you play them without making separate files. It just
extracts them straight to your mp3 player which plays them. But it is not
necessary to do 2 separate operations unless you're trying to burn them to
 a
separate cd or something like that.

Re: need help with rar files.

2008-05-28 Thread patricknc
Winrar will let you play them without making separate files. It just
extracts them straight to your mp3 player which plays them. But it is not
necessary to do 2 separate operations unless you're trying to burn them to a
separate cd or something like that.

As with zipped files. You have to decompress them first. RAR isn't a
playing format it denotes a type of compressed file.

Re: need help with rar files.

2008-05-27 Thread patricknc
You have to extract them. Rar is a compression program like zip and unzip.
I know that one way is to use the normal cut paste method for each cut
which works fine if you have just a few cuts. That, of course, would be
very tedious if you have a lot of stuff. I know the program has a way to
extract a whole file, but I've never had a need to do that, so I never
checked on it. It's a shareware program, but I think you get 30days to try
it. If you don't have too many disks, that should give you plenty of time.
