Maybe it's because I am using Hughes which is a satellite server--maybe
originating in the states--I don't know.

Why block. Legal reasons, I suspect.
Or it could be the issue of royalty payments.
Things like this aren't just done to inconvenience folks; they have their
reasons like with most things.
One may not be happy about this, but this is done elsewhere as often
pointed out with some BBC channels.
