Feel free to give me suggestions.

My suggestion is that you try using dssi~. It supports LADSPA just the same
as plugin~, but is more full-featured.

It has been discussed recently that we bring the dssi~ Pd interface in line
with plugin~ (It almost already is) and then simply rename it to plugin~,
replacing the old one. I'd like to add LV2 support and ensure that dssi-vst
 support works as well.

Then the generic name 'plugin~' becomes a bit more justified ;-)

i can't say, since i don't use linux regularly and know nothing about

Anyway, i have to say that checking out flext and the externals from

each line represents the rgb color where the first item in each line is red ,
the second green and the third blue.

My question is this:
i have a gem patch that creates random 3d shapes using nested repeat objects

each repeated geo? for example if i have a sphere repeated 10 times, i would

third color in my txt file and so on.

Re: [PD] Yet more DS GUI excursions

2009-01-20 Thread Jonathan Wilkes
Here's an example where some ds stuff is drawn outside the bounding box by
hiding it before the gop dimensions are set. Move the red box to make the
y-value and mouse-action appear.

For the y-value on the right, there's obviously a bug because if you quickly
minimize and maximize the patch when it's visible, the gop box widens to
compensate (in windows at least).

But the symbol to the left doesn't seem to affect the gop dimensions. I'm
guessing this is because I set it's x-value to a negative number.

I'd assuming this works with filledpolygon, but I haven't tried it yet.

Here's another experiment with datastructure-based GUI
 replacements.
As with Chris (with his recent excellent expanding
 GUI concept), I'm
a big big fan of hiding complexity, and I also like keeping
 details
and interaction in context, as in, somehow
 connected to or growing
from the control you're manipulating. Apple's
 doing this tons lately,
 e.g., the new iLife
 http://blog.cocoia.com/2009/01/07/iwork-ilife-09-ui-roundup/
 (HUD
panel changes is the only pic I can find, but there
 are many more
examples in the new iMovie videos @
 http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/).

So, this is a simple context-bubble sketch: dragging the
 slider
reveals a bubble with two different interpretations of the
 slider's
value. With the new click message, these could
 me more than
transient datalayers, and could graduate to being actual
 interactive
 controls.

The biggest problem with this example is that the bounding
 box of the
GOP needs to be bigger than the control to give room for
 the context
popup to appear, meaning every control has a giant black
 rectangular
halo. It would be really awesome if there was a way to
 hide that box,
just like IOhannes added the option to hide the object name
 and
 arguments.

Another really nice addition to DS would be variable
 opacity, so when
I do a filledpolygon I can specify 9005 as the color to get
 a
transparent red rather than just 900. That would be of
 great use for
both these context bubbles as well as, say, a sample range
 selection
box where you can still see the sample data under the
 selection. And
as ever, a way to specify a persistent z-index for DS is
 pretty
 essential for any complex use.

Okee, that's all for the moment

Yeah, that sucks for sure, I forgot all about that. Would be great if it
was possible to send a message 'clean' to a patch to undo the dirty
 flag.
Yo, this is definitely a bummer - even for datastructures, populating
the data subpatch trips the dirty flag, which is often unwanted when
the DS are just transient bits saved via a different mechanism than
writing to the patch file (like SSSAD).

But, it seems like a [clean( message might inadvertently cause one to
lose work, e.g., if you make a wanted, permanent change, tripping the
dirty flag, and then run an operation which sends a [clean( message,
you would not be able to distinguish which change was meant to be
permanent and which was transient.

So, a different idea might be a message which can temporarily or
permanently toggle detection of changes in a patch or subpatch. This
way, one could turn off dirty-detection, make a change using
[donecanvasdialog(, and turn it back on again. One could then
effectively specify which operations are meant to be saved and which
are not.

To complete this idea, though, we also need a [savebang] object to
fire before the patch is saved to restore the patch to its original
state (clearing subpatches, restoring GOP size, etc.). I know this
can be built with [tot] but it's not reliable (I have a [savebang]
abstraction in sfruit/ which I've tried to use for this purpose - it
only works half the time or so).

Best

Luke, i played with that briefly yesterday,

when closing, i got a whole bunch of discard changes to this window?

Hello pd happy people, one question , i have a txt
 file with rgb colors .
The txt file i have is something like this:

  142 250 0
  0 100 50
  14 123 0
  123 222 111 and so on.

each line represents the rgb color where the first
item in each line is red , the second green and the third
 blue.

My question is this: i have a gem patch that creates
random 3d shapes using nested repeat objects with geos.
How can i read each line of my txt file (each color ) and
apply to each repeated geo? for example if i have a sphere
repeated 10 times, i would like that the first sphere would
be the color of the first line in my txt file, the second
sphere the second line in my txt file , the third sphere
the third color in my txt file and so on.

how can i do something like this

 something like the attached?

but you probably really should use tables/arrays to store
the values rather than using [textfile]

[PD] Pd-extended and command line parameters

2009-01-20 Thread e deleflie
All,

I cant get the command line parameters to work on Pd-extended. (OSX)

Using the GUI 'startup' option doesn't work for me because I'm using 2
instances of PD spread over a 2 core machine . talking to each
other via jackdmp.

I need to access the command line parameters so that I can configure
the instances differently.

Is there a secret to get command line params to work with Pd-extended?

Hi,

Cool stuff!

OT,
This reminded me of when I first saw YouOS.

One of these days someone may implement a full featured virtual desktop
with a web browser and office applications, etc... all on top of Pd data
structures. :)

Here's another experiment with datastructure-based GUI replacements.
As with Chris (with his recent excellent expanding GUI concept), I'm
a big big fan of hiding complexity, and I also like keeping details
and interaction in context, as in, somehow connected to or growing
from the control you're manipulating. Apple's doing this tons lately,
 e.g., the new iLife
 http://blog.cocoia.com/2009/01/07/iwork-ilife-09-ui-roundup/ (HUD
panel changes is the only pic I can find, but there are many more
examples in the new iMovie videos @
 http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/).

So, this is a simple context-bubble sketch: dragging the slider
reveals a bubble with two different interpretations of the slider's
value. With the new click message, these could me more than
transient datalayers, and could graduate to being actual interactive
 controls.

The biggest problem with this example is that the bounding box of the
GOP needs to be bigger than the control to give room for the context
popup to appear, meaning every control has a giant black rectangular
halo. It would be really awesome if there was a way to hide that box,
just like IOhannes added the option to hide the object name and
 arguments.

Another really nice addition to DS would be variable opacity, so when
I do a filledpolygon I can specify 9005 as the color to get a
transparent red rather than just 900. That would be of great use for
both these context bubbles as well as, say, a sample range selection
box where you can still see the sample data under the selection. And
as ever, a way to specify a persistent z-index for DS is pretty
 essential for any complex use.

Okee, that's all for the moment
 Best
 Luke

Re: [PD] Gem, Particles, a tail?

Andrew,

I think updating the coordinates of [part_source] by sending it
arguments, rather than inserting a [translate] in the chain should work.

 Dear all

I'm attempting to create a gem graphing application. in essence I want
objects to the right of the screen (moved by incoming data) with
particles moving to the left, and so leaving a visible tail of
particles moving to the left and showing where the source object has
recently moved. The trouble is that a translate object anywhere in the
particle chain not only moves the source but all the particles in the
same direction. Does anyone know how I can move the source object but
leave existing particles on their current course?

 God Bless

[PD] gemlist/spline_path issues

2009-01-20 Thread Jeff Siegel
Hi guys.

So I'm relatively new to PD, and right now I'm trying to make a set number
of discrete objects (20 of them) created along a spline path. In the
cityscape1 subpatch in the patch below, I've set up an array to be randomly
populated on a bang from the main patch screen. I'd like the objects in the
gemlist in the cityscape1 subpatch to use that array, via spline_path, to
generate each object's y-axis value. Obviously, how I've set it up is simply
creating a straight line of evenly placed circles, rather than conforming to
the path as set. What am I doing wrong, or is there another way to do this?
Thanks.

2009-01-20 Thread Jeff Siegel
Ok. I switched it to a double-gemhead situation, but the pd window is
telling me there's no array to be read by spline_path. I've checked the
spelling, rewritten the array, and can't figure this out for the life of me.
