[PD] pd-con 2011: CARILLON
Dear carillon crew, It took some time that you got the last live sign from us... sorry for that! We wanted to remind you that the deadline for your submissions for the carillon is at the end of july. As we promised we contacted the manufacturer of the carillon to ask him about the maximum repeat rate of the striking mechanism. Unfortunatelly they can't give us some useful information. Additionally we are a little concerned about the health of the carillon: Since the porcelain bells are more delicate than the usual metal or brass bells we wanted to have written specifications of the manufacturer what we can do and what we can't with the carillon – just as a liability insurance for the worst case. The worst case is certainly a bell cracking because of our music. If that happens and parts of the bell falls it will also destroy the ones under it. To be replaced a few bells over and under in the scale from the missing bell need to go to the factory in order for the one bell to be tuned correctly. All in all the costs will exceed 10.000 Euros very quickly. However the manufacturer doesn't want to give us such a specification and we now have two contrary statements: the manufacturer says that it is possible o destroy a bell through the system, the carilloneur of the city hall says it isn't. We will continue to try to get hands on a reliable specification but wanted you to know about the situation. If we can't get anything specific we must reserve the possibility to reject proposals which repeatedly strike the same bell in a short time. while “short” is for now defined by faster than the average person can do on a piano. We are really sorry, but at the moment we can't provide you more information as mentioned. We'll let you know as soon as we get new information and we'll update the Wiki-page...: http://www.uni-weimar.de/medien/wiki/PDCON:Porcelain_carillon Looking forwad to your ideas and patches, best regards moritz, frederic and max Moritz Schell MKG, Master Trierer Straße 42 99423 Weimar 0170 - 851 08 87 moritz.sch...@uni-weimar.de moritzsch...@gmx.de ___ Pd-list@iem.at mailing list UNSUBSCRIBE and account-management - http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list
[PD] pd-con 2011: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
To all who are interested in composing for the weimar carillon at the pd-con: we collected your questions - answers see below... which are the possibilities of nuances of amplitude of the porcelain- carillon? - technically there are no nuances for the touch-response: once you played a note the mechanical hammersystem hits the bell with the same intensity. Repeat rate of a single bell / speed of execution of melody? - we just sent a request to the guys who build the carillon if there is any limitation (techically/concerning health of the bells). As soon as we have an answer we'll let you know. As far as we tested the carillon with a MIDI-Keyboard there were no limitations except the speed of our fingers :) but the lowest note is sounding rather an a (midi 57) instead of an A (midi 45). - thanks hans for this comment! you seem to be right... The lowest note is an a (midi 57) Is there a full polyphony resp. how many voices can be played simultaneously? - as far as we know there is a full polyphonic response. In principle you can play 35 bells simulaneously... thanks a lot for the nice feedback, keep on questioning if things are not clear and check the Wiki-page, we'll update it frequently. best frederic and moritz Moritz Schell MKG, Master Matrikelnr. 100498 Trierer Straße 42 99423 Weimar 0170 - 851 08 87 moritz.sch...@uni-weimar.de moritzsch...@gmx.de ___ Pd-list@iem.at mailing list UNSUBSCRIBE and account-management - http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list

Dear pd-community, you have the chance to rock the bells of weimar city hall! During the pd-convention from 8.8-14.8.2011 in weimar there will be the possibility for little evening concerts on the porcelain carillon in the tower of weimar cityhall. It is a great opportunity to present your compositions/generated music/etc. in public space on an ancient instrument. The city hall faces the market place - a touristic hotspot of weimar. - The concerts will take place every evening during 7p.m and 8p.m. - There will be 5 concerts - one for every evening. The pd-con team will select 5 pieces out of your submissions - The compositions should not take longer than 12 minutes so they'll fit in between the quarter-hour chime - The compositions can be reached in either as a MIDI-file or as a pure-data patch that outputs MIDI-notes (The carillon is MIDI- compatible) For more information visit this wiki-page: http://www.uni-weimar.de/medien/wiki/PDCON:Porcelain_carillon There you'll also find a pure data sample player with the original sound of the bells - so you can test your artwork wherever you are Please send your suggestions/concepts/compositions until latest the END OF JULY to: moritz.sch...@uni-weimar.de looking forward to the results and to see you all in weimar, frederic, max and moritz Moritz Schell MKG, Master Matrikelnr. 100498 Trierer Straße 42 99423 Weimar 0170 - 851 08 87 moritz.sch...@uni-weimar.de moritzsch...@gmx.de ___ Pd-list@iem.at mailing list UNSUBSCRIBE and account-management - http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list

[PD] Picture to Audio to Array
Hello I’m completely new to the Mailing List (and quite new to pd) and I hope someone out there can help me… I tried to make a patch that converts the information of the pixels (grey value) to a frequency by going through the picture from left bottom to right top. The resulting audiowave should be written in an array. Everything works fine so far BUT: Everytime I repeat the whole action (with the same picture - same grey values) a new wave appears in the array. This is really weird because it is always the same sound and should be always the same wave… Any suggestions? Patch is attached. (with a lot of [switch~]es in it) ---im a big fan off your tut's and gizmos! [cheers~] moritz (the attached patch works only with netpd) Original-Nachricht Datum: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 23:07:54 + Von: padawan12 [EMAIL PROTECTED] An: pd-list@iem.at Betreff: Re: [PD] netpd download all patch Yeah, I've been looking at it a lot recently. Even if your not into music (and right now really only techno music) net-pd sets a really good standard for pd programming and encapsulation, and probably represents the best of UI practice using only the intrinsic components. I'm thinking next year I will start to move the music synth (toys and gizmos) part of my work towards net-pd because it represents an important versioning commonality to share patches which the wider Pd lacks. There's still room for improving it too. I have some ideas I'm mulling over to do with distributed composition which I hope to add some day and net-pd seems the obvious place to try these out. If you're in London today at the Openlab3 meet we will hopefully get to try out setup based on OSC to perform with simple distributed synthesisers on a LAN. I just wanted to jump in on this thread to say that I find netpd to be one of the most exciting things I have seen in electronic music ever. Thanks so much Roman and all the other contributors for making it. You guys are really pushing new frontiers with this. If anyone hasn't tried it yet, you should get into it!
