Thanks very much, Paul. It does make sense, and is very helpful.

Thanks, Dan!
I would have preferred a bit more sharpness but I was shivering.
Actually the wind was what made it hard to hold the camera steady, especially
with ice underfoot.
Thanks again.

I have a couple of the Eye-Fi Pro series cards. I use the Pro rather
than the Mobi in the event I want to transfer RAW files from the card to
either my iPad or computer. Transferring RAW files however would be a
last resort as it's a slo-o-o-o-w process.
OTOH, I have my camera

Hi Eric -
Three thoughts come to mind - first that DOF is the range of "apparent"
or "acceptable" sharpness, but parts of the subject that are not right
at the focal plane will still be slightly out of focus. Not an issue in
many genres of photography but in macro, where the detail is crucial,

Hi Darren -
The best I can come up with for shipping is $12.75 for a medium USPS
flat rat box. So how about $18? Since it is a flat rate box I could fit
some other things into the bag as well - the Fujica camera would fit
nicely or the A 80-200

I don't know from your post the focal length but, at f22 refraction
becomes an issue with almost any "small" format camera, (in the digital
age almost everything not using film is a small format for these
purposes), rule of thumb is it starts taking a toll at about f8~f11. on
35mm format.

You didn’t say what focal length.
Assuming you were using 200mm at 20’, f/11 the depth of field would be 4”.
50mm at 20’, f/11 would be 5’9”
The one app I am using to calculate these numbers doesn’t want to use an
aperture smaller than f/11.
The other app says 2’11” for 200mm, f/22 at 20’ but I a
Eric,
Focusing at infinity with that long focal length lens would not produce
good results, especially at the longer end of the zoon.
I suspect that you may have mixed focusing at infinity with focusing at
the hyperfocal distance. The definition of the latter is when you focus to
it, everythi
Not very well without an aperture ring, but you can trust the limit of
acceptable focus to be achieved.

Can you judge the depth of field with that aperture at that distance?

My wording problem. What I meant was focus at 1/3 of the distance into the
scene, not at infinity.
