Sony seems to have worked out that not everyone sees higher resolution as the end-all-and-be-all; they offer full-frame cameras in 12MP, 24MP and 36MP flavors. Personally, I'd prefer the 24 megapixel size as my sweet spot. I think we're going to get the 36MP one, though, despite the rumors. --

One very good reason to go with the 42MP sensor: In crop mode with DA lenses, it will perform as well as the K-3 sensor. Hard drives are cheap, and modern processors can easily handle large files. Some of my scans of medium format negs are more than 1 gig, and my 2011 iMac 27 has no problem
