center), focus, now shift and compose. With a nice matte, all I have

FWIW, I am quite astigmatic - I wear corrective contacts and I have
no trouble at all focusing on stock *istD, K10D and K20D screens - do
it all the time. Maybe with glasses any movement of the lens pushing
against the finder could cause a problem?

Well, it is an excellent photograph of an ugly fly. The photo
doesn't make me like it anymore, but helps me to clearly see why I
don't like it.
Nice shot!

I generally like duck shots just about as much as I like cat shots
(not much), but this one is most excellent. You have done something
beyond the normal with this. The strong water background and almost
silhouette of the duck, but keeping the eye visible just makes this
shot a cut above the
A couple of things to note. First of all, the 500FTZ and 540FGZ do
NOT use the same battery stuff, so if you get something for the 500
you will not be able to use it for the 540.
Recently I shot a gymnastic meet where 22 teams participated. 1640
shots all done with flash - I used the 540FGZ and
Hello Scott,

Wonderful silhouette. More drama in the sky would improve it, but
you'd need to use a Canon to be able to order that grin.

This is a very interesting subject. I suspect many of us have
different feelings about it. I'll lay out some of my thoughts.
I am not a big fan of 'me too' type of responses - it does give a
warm fuzzy for the photographer but not much beyond that. However, a

A different take on the 'Eye' - something that I've not seen. Points
for originality. Also the high contrast treatment works pretty well
- gets rid of any issues with the sky. Well done.

This one just doesn't grab me. The people are too shadowed to provide
any interest. There would need to be some better interaction. The
rest of the shot is too empty.

Pretty nice shot. The one distraction is the background is just a
bit busy. Probably shooting from further away with a longer lens
would allow you to keep the subject relatively sharp and blurring the
background a little more.
Well seen.

Interesting shot, there. I'm thinking you mean moonrise, sunset. So
that is one of the difficulties here. I would normally think to crop
out much of the sky, but I'm thinking that you want to show how low
the moon is in the sky...

Around here, the meaning of portrait and character study are much
more like Bill has said. Perhaps it has meaning based on the intent.
In a character study, one is trying to bring out something more about
the person than just the exterior view. In a portrait one is trying
to show a pleasing view
