The new Velvia 100 (not 100F) has been out in Japan for some time. Anyone on
the list directly compared it with the great Velvia 50? Your comments would be
appreciated.

Although most are still available in the US right now, does anyone know if they are
still in production?

William, your comments are right on: Much of the Bible is, by todays standards, hate
literature, and should be dealt with in those terms. As a gay American, I have
personally experienced the no-stop hatred, stupidity and anti-gay violence preached by
a large segment of the American Christian
Can someone on the list, who has or has seen this adapter, give us the exact amp
rating of this adapter. I is 6.5v. How many amps or milliamps?
Thanks. Robert James
I've been conducting many lens tests on my ist-Dwhich is now easier with digital!
One clear conclusion is that the Pentax 20-35/4 lens is perfect for the ist-D. I
cannot find a lens in it's range (zoom or prime) which beats it.period. I think
getting the cheaper FAJ or the new ist-D
Does anyone on the list own this lens, or has anyone used it and tested the optical
quality?? I have the SIgma 50-500/6.3, which is quite good optically and much smaller
(not to mention 10x cheaper). Is the Pentax 250-600 worth it? I have never seen any
mention of test results or real world
Do our list friends with connections to Pentax Japan, have any idea what Pentax plans
to do with the FA star lenses??? Are they updating the zoom line up? Deleting any?
New limited lenses??
I do not understand Pentax bringing out the ist-D (which is great) for $1600 or so,
and selling them
I have been testing the fantastic *ist-D with a variety of lenses. So far, the Pentax
80-200/2.8 FA and Pentax 200/4 FA Macro have been stunning.beautiful. Tamron
24-135 not bad. Pentax 20-40/4 FA very good. Tamron 80-200/2.8 superb (adaptall pk-a
mount works just fine).

Pal, your being way to critical of Pentax. The *ist and *ist-D seem
excellent in design and specification, and wiil sell very well.

After seeing the *ist D photos, which has some MZ-S influence, I bet you can
see the flagship slr. Pentax will fix the MZ-S problemsadd aperature
control, the great PZ-1p hyper modes, and hyper manual. In my opinion, the
MZ-S was close but lacked some key and unique PZ-1p features. The
I just purchased a used, but in good shape, Pentax 300/4.5 FA lens. However,
I think there is a problem with it. When I put it in manual focus, and move
the collar to infinity or it's shortest focusing distance...the collar
(not the focusing range) continues to move or slip beyond the

Everybody relax. Pentax USA says the new Pentax DLSR, will of course, take
the existing K mount lenses for sure.

Four new Tamron lenses...check out Photozone. Why hasn't this been reported
in the US yet???
Tamron 17-35/2.8-40
Tamron 28-75/2.8 XR
Tamron 70-200/2.8 (maybe not in PKAF)
Tamron 180/3.5 Macro (maybe not in PKAF)
Can anyone verify which mounts will be made? Thanks.

Ricoh P lenses will not work in program mode of Pentax cameras.
HOWEVERmost 3rd party manual focus lenses (with the PK-A/R mount) from
Sigma and Tokina, plus Tamron adaptall, will work with both in program mode.
By the way, the Ricoh 105/2.8 Macro is Ricoh only and absolutely
I have several of this lens, and it is SUPERB. It's considered one of
Tamron's finest lenses ever. Sharpness rivals primes throughout the range,
and I use it as a benchmark against other lenses when testing at 80-200
range. It will equal or beat the SIgma 70-210/2.8 I believe...which is one
I tested the Pentax 24-90 vs the Tamron 24-135. I'd give a very slight edge
to the Pentax for optics, but the extra range of the Tamron is nice. Both
are very good zooms opticallyboth very consistent over the ranges. A
tough choice.

I don't know if this would help, but calling the Corporate Pentax offices and
demanding a decent k-mount digital slr needs to be done by as many of us
Pentax lovers as possible. If Sigma can justify a nice one in, of all
mounts, their own SIgma mount.for heavens sake, it's inexcusible
IMO, your best bet is the Tokina 28-80/2.8. I've tested it.superb.

As I mentioned earlier, I strongly agree that not having aperature contron on
the body is a big problem witht the MZ-S. The problem is very
simple..setting the aperture ring on f8 DOES NOT MEAN you will get f8 if
you are using most zoom lenses that are not a straigth f4 or f2.8, for
Bruce, I'm a bit confused on your point. My understanding is that if you
adjust the shutter speed using the MZ-S dial, you will of course alter the
corresponding f-stop. But the problem is that the shutter speed is fixed,
and any slight movement of the viewfinder could cause a change in the
I just got the Oct 2001 editionexcellent tests on the Pentax 31/1.8 LTD
(did very well), Pentax 200/4 FA Macro and Pentax 28-105/3.2-4.5 FA.
I missed the August and September 2001 issues. Can someone email me the list
of lenes tested in these issues? I would greatly appreciate it.
No typo. The Pentax lens is FA 28-105/3.2-4.5. It's the new one.

Bruce, the Tokina 28-80/2.8 is outstanding. I've tested it extensively and
holds it's own against many primes. Much better than the Tokina 28-70/2.8,
not a bad lens either.

I just bought two of these, and although I have not yet tested them
optically, I am a bit disappointed in the build quality. Very plastic. Zoom
feel not that great. And both my lenses have some barrel wobble.which is
inexcusable for a single barrel extension. I also have the new Tamron
It's optically an excellent lens. I have several and have tested it. It's
got the best dust seals of any lens I own. Autofocus is really not
bad...it's fun to use. Converts a manual focus camera to autofocus ( keeps
the split screen!).

In answer to several questions, here goes:
On the MZ-S, you have to use the aperture ring to go into Aperature Priority
Mode, and the right dial to go adjust the Shutter Speed. Like the ZX-7 in
this regard. It is NOT like the PZ-1Pwhere you never have to adjust the
Aperature ring, which

According to Pentax, this is still a current lens. Does anyone know if it
has been discontinued? Many retailers no longer seem to have it in
stockyet its the best of the 28-105s! Any information out there?
