Thanks, Mark. I set up my backyard as a "field studio." I have several
feeders, a bird bath and some "natural" perches (so far the birds use
the perches but only when I'm not looking.
I get it. I'm usually shooting birds off a monopod, so I'm up around
1/500th shutter speed with the 400 and higher yet with the 400 and
the A2XS. I have shot some off the tripod recently but still used
quite a bit of shutter speed. I'll have to try some at a speed closer
to ambient.

The K10D defaults to 1/180th with an A or M lens. With birds I like to
set the exposure to ambient light condit

Great detail, Mark. What do you mean by slow shutter flash synch? I
use high speed synch with the AF540FGZ and the A 400/5.6. Works great.

shots in the yard. Probably the first time in a couple of years that I
broke out the birding stuff.
