I thought it was pretty common knowledge that Hoya supplied most (I hadn't heard all) of the optic glass used in photographic lenses. It's part of the reason they picked up Pentax. Pentax has/had a medical optics division (Canon and Nikon do as well) that is bigger than the photographic division.
