It is also _very_ hard to do. That guy had a magic finger.
How to see the approach of a composition is beyond me.
I have found that motor drives don't help; that revelation
didn't surprise me much. Using a motor drive is like using

Hi, Tom
I don't think we disagree on anything here.
I know you were being somewhat tongue in cheek in your earlier post. I think
the example I gave is the exception that proves the rule.
I too admire him greatly.

Hey!
The crusty old guy (HCB) is one of my heroes. If you had seen my photos from
the old days you would have had no doubt of his influence on me. I do, I
admit, tend to be very irreverent about my heroes.
The fact is his obsevation that the instant selected to push the button is

Well, I think you're splitting hairs here Tom.
I guess what I ~should~ have said is that some of his prints were cropped.
Whether he did it, or his lab guy at Magnum did really doesn't matter, IMHO.
The fact is that it happened. His famous photograph, "Derriere la Gare
Saint-Lazare", the one of

Don't get me started on that subject. I could fill pages with a rant.

you can use to make a print, the better.
That being said, sometimes it can't be helped. The odd time, there's
just no way I can move around to get that nasty light pole or power lines
out of the viewfinder, so I s

Having spent half my life with black & white, I am amazed at the number
of people who are obsessed with using every last mm of negative and
worry about lost negative space. I always thought that half the
photographer's job was done in the camera and the other half in a
darkroom. I see very fe

Graywolf's comments made me think about this issue.
If the reason why people feel that 6x6 format is a "waste of space" due to
cropping then:
1) Do any of you shooting any of the other formats (35mm, 6x4.5, 6x7, or
6x9) ever crop? It would appear that if 6x6 is a waste of space due to
cropping t
