It is dependant on the people who are doing the job.
Well, I just had my first miss in the film processing department :(

Hello Mark,
to me this looks like perhaps the bleach-fixer was exhausted.
If you know someone how does darkroom work, an addidtional bleach-fixing
procedure ASAP and washing could probably save your images.
I once had a similar-looking problem and could fix it this way. I did
the processing for

That looks like it got Sabbatiered. I bet the lid of the processor got
opened while your film was transiting from developer to bleach.
Well whatever they did,
Try scanning your film.
I'll bet, if it's processed 1 hour,
you'll have more dust and scratches than you
can shake 8 sticks at.
Dip and Dunk is supposed to minimize these problems,
but such processing is rare, may be quite a distance from
your house, and more expensive.

I use Walmart for 35 mm and AI in California for MF. The latter is
through BH Photo and so far they do a good job. The Walmart is the not
the 1 hour stuff but the send out variety. There is a photo place in
Lexington but that is more a photographer that does some processing and

He has to set the standard somewhere ;-)

Why use an LX if you are just going to have your prints screwed up? None of
those are really good choices (except the at home one).
BW is best done at home, good BW labs are getting hard to find anymore and
very expensive.
If you have to have color prints, find a good pro lab, though
Of course if they won't even try to fix them or want to charge you reprint
prices then run, don't walk someplace else. Anyone can make a mistake, it is
only when it happens too often or they try to deny it is their mistake when you
should worry.

LX#2 Kodak.
LX#3 Home darkroom.
Not really, I hardly ever shoot BW on 35mm.
