Cicero Ave in late afternoon allowed for more from-the-car photography.

check out. I have to say, I kind of like this little gallery. Work is

Fun stuff. I'd guess that the meat purveyor is true southside, perhaps in the
fifties or sixties, with the hot dog joint a bit north of there. The rest would
be considered westside by most Chicagoans -- or at least by the Chicagoans I
grew up with. I think the unofficial boundaries of the
Hot dogs and dominos for me :-) (the photos, that is - I dare not eat
hot dogs anymore and can't play dominos)
Nice set , Christine.
I love shooting out car windows, too... it's a special kind of challenge.

I recall you eating a hot dog, two in fact!

Thanks, Chris. I especially like that one too. These scenes certainly aren't
like the lovely lush English countryside as depicted in your last wonderful
GESO, but it might surprise you that being the city girl I am, I do find this
hot dog aesthetic beautiful :-) Cheers, Christine

I totally agree with your geographical comments below. I used the term
southwest side in a very broad sense because of our international audience. I
didn't see the need to go into specifics because most wouldn't know what I was
talking about. Though when I do my little round up at the end
Thanks, Ann. I really enjoy shooting from the car window. The challenge is
fun. Cheers, Christine

I wonder how many of the PDML'rs got that reference...
I enjoyed the gallery, especially this one:

I figured you knew all about eastside and westside, just reminiscing about the
old hometown. I would have guessed you got a bit further south than Cicero,
based on the meathouse, but that's certainly typical of that town, which was
once heavily Polish if memory serves. I remember going to

Cicero's work is the original of the famous lipsum that people use as
nonsense text on publication
Mr. Cellophane,
Thanks for catching it! The sound track was in heavy rotation in our
car's cd player several years back. Pre- iPod days, back when I had
little kids in the rear seats. What was I thinking? Not my finest
moment as a parent, but I had to crack up when I heard a four-year-old

Hi Everyone:
Found myself on the southwest side on Saturday, so the long drive on Cicero Ave

They're all great scenes, but I thought the addition of people was a
nice touch in that one...

Big thanks, Bob, very kind of you to say so. I'd planned to do a final round
up of the PAW series like DagT did last year, and I hope to continue with the
storefront, from-the-car series. I've had to travel to various community
colleges in and out of my community college district this

Thanks, Brian. I like the hot dog joint too. So Chicago. When Chicagoans
move to a new neighborhood, they often ask what's the best neighborhood pizza
joint and where do you get a good hot dog in this neighborhood. Cheers,
