A Cardinal high up in the White Oak. Shot with the K-3, DA 150-450 and DA 1.4X
converter. I went to this combination so I could shoot from my deck while
recovering from surgery rather than setting up out in the yard as i’ve been
doing for years. The K-3 gives me the FOV of a 945mm lens on a
Thanks Rick. I think the head is just a bit noisier. It was in shadow and
required quite a bit of dodging. The K-1 is less susceptible to noise and may
be inherently sharper. DOF would be very shallow here as well and I’m shooting
at a tilt angle of 60 degrees or more so the head is at the back
Paul,
Is it just me, or is it not quite as sharp as your usual?
The branch is sharp, as are the wing feathers; so either your uncooperative
subject was moving its head, or the DOF with that rig is very shallow.
The composition and colors are very nice.

This big red beauty never landed in a spot that would afford a clear shot, but
I was pleased that the K-1 autofocus proved accurate enough to ignore the
foreground branch and let me focus on the bird.

Jack, I am thinking it is flat. Not in tones, but in
composition/perspective. It is hard for me to know what you had in mind
when you composed the images, as it may all be your actual idea, but as
such I see just one wall of the barn and I don't see the building, so to
say.

Been threatening to stop someday and shoot this barn. When I passed it this PM
the owner was stopped in his driveway waiting for me to pass. I pinned there
and asked if I could come onto his property and photo this barn. He, as most
all farmers (Ranchers, in CA) do, told me to go right ahead.
Very nice. I like the ruddy red and the foreground shadows.

Well I can see where your reference to Ents came from. They certainly
do look like arms. This shot is not as strong for me as the fog one.
