I pulled out my FA28-200 for a concert I went to a month or so ago. I
was pleasantly surprised with the results. It was the first time I
used it in many moons.

I thought it was second generation. Still Tamron kept improving it
after the Pentax badged version was released. There's a FA 28-200 new
old stock in a local Camera Store. I think they want something around
$299.00 for it. I never liked mine on film but on digital it's, I want
to say not
I have an FA 28-200 AL and dislike the zoom creep issue with this lens
but WOW what a handy range. I still shoot film. I have thought about
replacing it with the Tamron 28-200 XR (62mm filter thread). Does anyone
on the list have first hand experience with the Tamron? Opinions?

As far
I understand what y'all are trying to say but I am under the impression
the XR version is a more compact, lighter design with a switch to
prevent zoom creep. I am interested in first hand experience with this
lens. Maybe I'll just order one and try it out :-)?
Thanks for the information.
The Pentax 28-200 was made by Tamron. But Tamron's super zoom went
through several generations of development after the Pentax version came
out. The most recent is apparently the best, as I recall from some
reading. You might also look at the Tokina 24-200, which I think tested
pretty well for
