With the K-3 I shot at 450mm with the 1.4 x converter, about 630mm, but from
much further away. The sparrow pic is at 380mm, but as I said, the K-1 pics are
handheld. Making it all work handheld from a bench near my feeder has been a
goal. It's more entertaining for me. It's also a bit harder
Could be less sharp. These were handheld. The K-3 pics were off a tripod. I'll
compare and get back to you.

I like both the finch and sparrow pics--both nicely composed and rendered.
Methinks the images aren't quite as sharp as they were with the K-3. It is
because you're shooting racked out all the way to 450 with the larger sensor,
where you got away with a shorter FL on the K-3? Some
Both are quite nice, Paul. Pretty amazing both are handheld given the focal
length. Steady Stenquist is a name so well earned. Really nice work!

Very nice pose and a clean background, but I do believe it's a female
House Sparrow, not House Finch. Among other differences, House Finch
would have a streaked breast.

Amazing. Detail is visible even inside it's beak. Looks like the house
sparrows we once had around here. Since the Indian Mynah population
explosion, they have all been displaced.

Yeah, I noted the edge artifacts, but a very conservative sharpening nudge was

really have no clue what 'natural' really is. Mostly not seeing
man-made stuff in the frame. I bet you could sit there and shoot all

I've been trying to figure out what to say about this image. I like the
composition. A BW conversion is reasonable, but it doesn't look
right. The background is blown out, as are parts of the branch, and
places on both birds feathers. I hate to say it but it's almost good...
