simply slow, it was a disaster. Still it doesn't mean that in-body AF
couldn't be done better - especially if we consider that instead of film
mechanism there's only a sensor to move. After all, weight comparison

Margus,
Given the amount of travel in some of my lenses,
I think the idea is a non-starter.
Digital cameras are too thick now.
This would only make it worse.

How much throw of the sensor would you need to focus? a few cm? I
wonder if you could actually sell fixed focus lenses (hyper-focal
point, infinity, etc.) and let the sensor. If you could move the
sensor fast enough, would there be any lens advantage? A fixed focus

It's the same as adding extension tubes; the answer depends on the
focal length of the lens, and how close you want to focus. If you want
to achieve 1:1
The issue becomes the fact that film is FAR more forgiving of
alignment errors than digital. Not to mention the fact that the AF
sensor Refle mirror needs to move with the imaging sensor and that
essentially dictates the shutter has to move too. Add the fact that
wider lenses require far smaller
A japanese member of pentaxforums said thr 135-1.8 looked much like
the special versions made for japanese army (50/1.2 at least were made
such according to him).

Future Pentax bodies will have in-body autofocus. It's much faster to
move a light sensor than tons of glass. And you'll have AF with any
K-mount lens (and others that you can mount via adapters) ever produced.
Great, isn't it? Why it still has a focus-ring...

I think Contax tried that. Pentax is here Contax is gone. Casualty
isn't guaranteed but it's the way to bet.

Not tedious at all. Please keep this stuff coming!
That's a nice intriguing mix of old new stuff! I believe that 135 to be an
old prototype lens, unsure if

What an amusingly strange collection of lenses! The 135 is certainly
intriguing, since it looks pretty different from the original version.
I wonder if it's some sort of special/limited release?

Hmmm. It's marked Pentax A*. Doesn't sound like a new lens. But I'd like a

Even more likely is it's an old protorype of the A* 135 given that the
finish resembles the old A* super-tele's.
