The smaller sensor would allow lower reproduction
ratios, hence increasing DOF which can be a real
problem even for 35mm.
I imagine the 50mm F4/2.8 macro lenses would be

portrait lens for the *ist D! If I had waited, that would have been my
first purchase. Sorry Peter.
Not much chance of that. They are used in the manufacture of some large
specialised optical equipment or other.
