Escaping the cold hey? Glad to hear there were a lot of turtles. Not so
common in Southern Africa any more because the locals steal the eggs.
Nature conservation is trying to help by increasing security on the
preferred beaches & then transporting the hatchlings to beyond the
breakers. I have only seen a few in Mozambique.

Thanks for looking Jack. I agree with you, but the turtles were gathered
together in a tight group, with one's fin often resting on its neighbor's
back. Much like the sea lions on Pier 39 in SF. I just tried to focus on
an interesting one and exclude as much of its surroundings as I could.

Re: WTF??? The Mystery of Life

2019-01-21 Thread John
Severe clear here. 33°F, wind out of the NW at 9 knots - felt like 22° ... or so
says the weatherman - I felt like it was 40 below!!!

But I didn't COMPLETELY botch the photos. They look usable from full moon to
about 95% eclipsed - nothing I can see there during the totality - and then from
about 95% back to the full moon I have usable images again.

My quick glance as I went through them while downloading, I'm not sure if I
caught much of the "blood" aspect.

I used a timer to take a photo about every 7 minutes. I ended up moving the
tripod & camera a couple of times. The second time I positioned my Jeep as a
wind break and sat in it counting minutes until I thought it was getting close
to time for the next frame, then getting out to make sure the camera did take
the next frame.

I have two Phottix TR-90 timers and used both, switching between them about
half-way through because by then my hands were too numb to change the batteries
in them.

As soon as I stop shivering I'll get back on the computer and see if I can put
together an image adequate for a PESO.

I've concluded that it's not paranoia if they really ARE out to get you.

I'm pretty sure it was below 0°F when I was shooting but I didn't

What's nice about eclipses is that you can get a good exposure for the
moon *and* the stars in one shot. Normally you have to choose between
seeing the stars and getting a blown-out moon or getting a good image
of the moon with no stars at all.

Thanks, but only if I can get anyone to show up.

By the way, you might know the neighborhood, it's about two blocks
past where Saratoga Ave becomes Hwy 9 (or hwy 9 makes a right angle
left turn) heading towards Felton.

Re: Got 1 half-way decent shot of the eclipse

2019-01-21 Thread ann sanfedele

Nice to see it in the matrix .  It works for me.

what a great place to view it from - sorry you didn't have a bigma.. but
seeing glowing red with the stars around is nice.

Jay Taylor posted a closeup on FB..  he was better equipped for the
occasion.

being it is 15 ° here I didn't even go out on the street to look -- my
windows did not afford a view when it was red  - only earlier.. :-(

Very nice. Was too cloudy here and unless I attempted to venture out to
the countryside too much light pollution for a nice capture such as yours.

Not bad. A little lacking in definition but still fascinating. Thanks for
shooting it. Too damn cold here, I was sound asleep.
