I like the way you have framed the picture with the big tree on the right, and the relatively high trees to the left. The path leads into the picture in a nice way too. For impact, one can consider to make that sort of image element into a diagonal, but as it stands I think it underlines a kind of tranquility. Nicely rendered with very credible colour tones. Would be interesting to know wherther the glade is old cultivated grassland or a completely natural thing. The way I read it is old cultivated grassland. Re: recommendations for usb 3 sd card reader
For those reading this and wanting a similar upgrade, it should be noted that your desktop or laptop has to have a USB 3 port in order to make full use of a USB 3 device. (You can't just plug a USB 3 device into a USB 2 port and get a performance increase). I realize that this is a duh for most of us, but just adding it for those who may not be quite the technical geniuses that the rest of us are. :D On Wed, Nov 20, 2013 at 12:03 AM, John Celio neo.venator.com+p...@gmail.com wrote: On Tue, Nov 19, 2013 at 9:00 PM, Larry Colen l...@red4est.com wrote: All of my SD card readers are USB 2. Re: More K-3 BIF: more noise, but more detail
My daughter is shooting mostly weddings and portraits and she much prefers her K20D over my K5 because of the skintone renderings. I have to agree that the smoothness of the Samsung sensor is much better than what is found in the K5. High ISO performance however, is an entirely different matter. -- Bruce -- Sent from Sony Tablet S Zos Xavius zosxav...@gmail.com wrote: Interesting. His verdict is There is more visible noise at high ISO starting ISO 640. K-5 shots looked cleaner. But, man, cropping ability and details of K-3 on top of faster and more reliable AF, including now working well enough AF.C, are simply amazing. Also metering is much more accurate, handling highlights very well. Some good images of Birds In Flight (BIF) as examples. I believe that this illustrates why Pentax could very easily come out with a Full Frame DSLR that has the SAME MP as the K-3 and it would still be a winner: Larger sensor sites would mean less noise (and probably better high ISO performance) and so the FF image quality would top the K-3 (for presumably more money). However, if Pentax takes what they learned from making the K-3 (in terms of AF performance, exposure system, high frame rate, and switchable AA) and it would be a serious Home Run. This is the main reason that I think that K-5 and K-5ii owners could pretty easily wait for the FF in 2014, rather than hopping on the K-3 now. Think of it as putting $1299 towards your eventual full frame body. At base ISO, the K3 is as good as the K5, and one of the first things I noticed is how much nicer the K3 files are to work with in my environment (YMMV). In the studio K3 files are as nice as the K7 files. I didn't like the look that I got from the K5 as much as the K7 in terms of flesh tone rendering. That my K5 had useless AF didn't enamor it to me either. The K3 is certainly a big upgrade over the K5 on many, many levels. The K5II is what the K5 should have been except for the bozoness of Hoya, and I expect the K3 is more of an MP upgrade than anything else. Anyone using any of the K5 emulations would do well to consider the K3, unless there is no or minimal investment in small image circle lenses. I'm OK that way, I have a good selection of each, but someone who buys a FF camera does need to think about the new glass he might need if he is changing format from APS-C. bill -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Derby Chang: I like this classic pose. I would have liked the shot taken slightly to the left, to make her profile more tonally separated from the dark wall. This is a good series I hear you Derby, but the deep shadow was also an intentional act. I find it's slimming to a fuller figure to allow the edges to fall away into darkness. And I was exploring a chiaroscuro effect because ... well just because. :-) Thank you, Derby. Stan Halpin: Nice. But I have one minor quibble - the purple coloration in the hair is distracting for me. It draws my attention and makes me wonder whether this is intentional or an artifact? The actual color of her hair or a by-product of the set-up? I am pretty sure I know the answers, but still find it a distraction... Stan, you could have a point re the tinted hair colour: perhaps it clashes with the red. I will probably monochrome a different shot in this Art Nude group and then the colour would be moot. But as it was a non-paid collab trade shoot, that's her hair, and that's what I had to work with. Thanks! Re: recommendations for usb 3 sd card reader
Darren and others: For people who are in that situation, I recommend an inexpensive solution of how to get USB-3 ports. I did this for my desktop and for my laptop. Desktop: I bought this PCI adapter card: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/696114-REG/Transcend_TS_PDU3_2_Port_USB_3_0_PCI.html It seems to work fine. Note that you need to have a spare short (PCI x1) PCI slot available. Laptop: if your laptop has an express card slot, you can buy a very inexpensive adapter for USB 3.0. Depending on the width of your slot, you want to buy a 30-mm or 54-mm card. I bought this one for my laptop (Windows 7): http://www.amazon.com/BestDealUSA-2-Port-ExpressCard-Express-Adapter/dp/B0090U8VES/ You can see reviews for that product on this page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046XUMDW/ even though the seller changed the name of the product recently - I believe the reviews are about BestDealUSA brand. - I bought that from this page in mid-2012. It works reasonably well, but once in a while is not recongnized as a USB-3 device. It is not often, maybe once in two months or maybe even less frequently. All you need is too pull it out and the push it back again 20 seconds later. Note, while 54-mm slot can accept both 30mm and 54mm cards, 54mm card is more steady in it. Also note, that if you need to connect USB-3 devices that don't have a separate power supply then you USB 3.0 adapter in the laptop should have an additional cable that plugs in into the regular USB adapter,- to provide the power (it is not sufficient/available from the express card port). This cable is usually included with these adapters (don't disregard it!) HTH, Igor Wed Nov 20 10:20:47 EST 2013 Darren Addy wrote: For those reading this and wanting a similar upgrade, it should be noted that your desktop or laptop has to have a USB 3 port in order to make full use of a USB 3 device. I put the bellows and the hundred macro onto the K3, and mounted the whole thing to a Chinese focusing stage. I missed the focus in a couple of areas anyway, so I decided to run it through Portraiture/ Glamour for kicks. See if I could make it into art. K3, 100mm Bellows Takumar on Bellows K. Re: PESO: Focus Stack
Very nice! So, you moved the camera with the focusing stage rather than changing focus of the lens. I've wondered how well that would work. RE file size: I've used Helicon Focus for my stacking; whether 5 image layers or 11 image layers (my max so far), the resulting TIFF file on my Mac is 144.4MB. stan On Nov 20, 2013, at 8:25 PM, Bill wrote: This stuff is fun. I actually changed focus. I should probably have moved the stage, since that causes less size change. Photoshop handles the layer resizing quite well. It's something I will keep playing with. RE file size: I've used Helicon Focus for my stacking; whether 5 image layers or 11 image layers (my max so far), the resulting TIFF file on my Mac is 144.4MB. When I started the process, I had 2.15 gb, when it was done processing but before I flattened it, it was double that.
