PESO - Joe McAllister

2016-03-09 Thread Brian Walters
Very sad to hear about Joe's passing.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I met up with Joe all too briefly on
my road trip with my family around the western USA. We only had about
an hour together to talk about all things Pentax but it was an enjoyable
time - even if Joe struggled with my accent occasionally.

Anyway - here's a photo I took at the time.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1370864/Joe.jpg

Rest in Peace, Joe.

Seconded. I hope his vast collection of equipment is dealt with compassionately
by the estate's executor. He was concerned about that and making arrangements
when I past heard from him.

Does anyone know the Samyang 18-28 lens?

2016-03-09 Thread Larry Colen
There is one for sale, very inexpensively, on craigslist. It seems to be
full frame, which would be very nice, when the K-1 is available.

Some of the Samyang lenses are excellent optically, but I'm not willing
to bet that they all are.

In a related note, is there anyone in the Richmond area that could take
a look at it for me? It's a crazy drive from Santa Cruz.

That's really sad news.

I met Joe in Seattle in 2013 over a cup of coffee and a table full of
Pentax gear - mostly his!

I've got a photo I took of him that I'll dig out and post.

By the way, how's Anthony doing? Last I heard he was having a few
health issues of his own.

Cheers

That's a very interesting portrait. I like the way his left eye is on a

There is something about that photo that is unsettling. That is not a

He showed a number of short videos of National Park, National Forest &
BLM lands that were taken using drones.

To the best of my knowledge, using a drone in National Parks requires
written permission from the park superintendent. His presentation didn't
include any information on how, if or when he acquired permission.

He did acknowledge the general FAA regulation that drones cannot be
operated beyond line of sight of the operator, but I couldn't determine
if that acknowledgement included a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" or not.

My reservations regarding drones is entirely concerning irresponsible
operators. There have already been instances where careless operators
have injured bystanders on the ground. Luckily, no fatalities.

But, I think it's only a matter of time before some idiot flies one into
