I haven't given up hope but, like those who moved on to other brands
because the Pentax full frame took so long to develop, I've invested in
m43 because of Pentax/Ricoh not getting serious about mirrorless. That
wont necessarily stop me buying a Pentax mirrorless if a competitive one
turns up, but it's just taking so bloody long. The K-01 and Q came out
over 4 years ago so it's not as if they don't know how to build one.

Re: Pentax KP??

2017-01-13 Thread Paul Stenquist
Most "classic" Pentax lens optics show serious fringing on DSLRs. The new
lenses are far better. Some primes would be fun, but zoom technology has
advanced to the point where developing primes is somewhat impractical. I
suspect that the D FA 150-450 is superior to any 300 or 400 mm prime Pentax
ever made, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that the D FA 15-30 is better
than any of the old Pentax wide primes.

Are you kidding. The wifi in my K-1 is, as far as I can tell, completely
useless. I actually forgot that it was there. They can't even do USB
right, they downgraded the USB form USB3 to USB2 in the body.

Let's have 802.11ac speed& multi-point Bluetooth.
Add to this a wifi/bt ssd in your pocket to receive the images from the

and use the grid system, especially since i want to work on my

My problem is this. I have several pictures that printed out 4 3/4" x
7" and i want to draw it onto an 8x10 frame in my sketch book. I have
looked through google but most of the info shows how to double or half
the picture not how to do the odd sizes I;m horrible at this part of
mathematics, but, can someone suggest a google page or math page??so i
can work out the ratio

Dave

You don't need to do any complicated math to figure out what will fit.

4 3/4" x 7" is not the same ratio as 8" x 10", so the drawing will be a
cropped image. You just have to decide where to crop it.

Try marking out a 1/4 inch grid on a piece of clear acetate for an
overlay. That should give you 19 x 28 grid squares over your image.

Using a heavier marker or a different color, mark a frame of 16 grid
squares x 20 grid squares on your overlay.

That will show you what is inside the 8x10 "frame" if you double the
size by using a half inch grid in your drawing. It will also allow you
to decide where to best crop the image to fit your drawing frame.

If you use permanent pens for the 1/4 inch grids (or buy an already made
grid from an artist's supply shop), you can use alcohol (erasable) pens
for marking out different frames on it.

You can use a 3/4" grid in your drawing to triple the size or 1" grid to
quadruple it.

Re: Pentax KP??

Interesting, Pentax, (well Ricoh I guess), has so made such a hash of
it's naming convention that I can't even guess if it's a successor to
the K-7/5/3 line or a successor to the K-30/50/70 or something out of
left field like the K-S1. I say that they've done this to build buzz
and keep us guessing but I don't think Pentax plans that far ahead.

Six from my nautical adventure

2017-01-13 Thread Bipin Gupta
Those water taxi shots were very well composed & shot Ann.
The empty benches and the trees tell a beautiful story.

I always shoot in rapid fire mode from my K-5 IIs while on a boat.
This ensures at least one shot will be sharp & well focused in the middle.
Perhaps AF-C may also help.
