Lens aperture slow to respond, thus overexposed pictures

2023-01-30 Thread Bipin Gupta
Hi Friends, had a similar problem with a Pentax "A" 35-105 mm f3.5 Lens -
bought Like New for US $ 65 + Tax at Kaufman's Camera in the Bay Area CA. I
reckoned a CLA would cost more than buying another one, say from KEH com -
$ 149 then. I then took the DIY route after reading up some resources on
the Internet and Pentax Forums worldwide.
I decided on a rear entry as this was easier and less complex then entering
the Lens from the front. I knew both sides should be cleaned to remove the
gumming up of the blades, but reasoned the front facing side may just
loosen up a bit too.
I used lots of Johnson's Q-Tips dipped in WD-40 - gently and very little
WD-40 at a time avoiding drips and fibres coming off from the Q-tips. A lot
of brown gooey stuff came out till there was no more discoloration of the
Q-tips.
Put back the rear elements. Had a perfect working lens - checked and
compared with a lot of test shots I had filed earlier.

Regards and Good Luck.
Bipin from Thornhill Ontario.

RE: OS 11 --> Weird problem

2023-01-30 Thread jcoyle
I fired up the Epson software after trying Henk's suggestion, and while it
allowed me to select Professional mode, I never got to
see a 'Scan' button! So I fired up VueScan 64, Version 6497 from April 2022,
and it immediately offered me the latest upgrade.
Installed it, and - Lo and Behold! After working out the interface, I am
cheerfully scanning some Kodachrome 64.
I do find you need to thoroughly understand the way all the parameters need to
be set under the VueScan interface, but it does work
well under W11.

Thanks for the help!

John, I remember the trouble I had installing my Epson V500 under W10. The
trick was to install the software from the CD and right
click on the file escndv.exe in the epson folder under program files (x86).
There you can change compatibility mode to an earlier
windows version. I choose Vista at the time and the professional Epson mode has
been working fine. My worries are whether this trick
will also work under W11.
You will have to wait forever for a new driver and software from Epson for
this old model scanner.

Re: OT: Fancy Camera Strap

2023-01-30 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
I looked at that project. The neat part of the base plate is that it takes the
load off the standard lugs (not designed for that kind of carry) and puts the
load at the base which allows the camera to lay flat more reliably.

It's primarily targeted to work with an SLR or largish EVF camera's shape and
largish lenses. It would be mostly useless with the different form factor and
relatively small/light lenses of a Leica M, for instance.

I use the Peak Design Leash strap, which max out at about 145cm (57 inches)
(plus a couple cm for the anchor bits). It's light, very strong, and easy to
use cross body, as well as easily length adjustable to suit your body and
preferences. It can be taken on and off a camera in a couple of seconds. A nice
strap!

Re: OS 11 --> Weird problem

2023-01-30 Thread Henk Terhell
John, I remember the trouble I had installing my Epson V500 under W10. The
trick was to install the software from the CD and right click on the file
escndv.exe in the epson folder under program files (x86). There you can
change compatibility mode to an earlier windows version. I choose Vista at
the time and the professional Epson mode has been working fine. My worries
are whether this trick will also work under W11.
You will have to wait forever for a new driver and software from Epson for
this old model scanner.
