The last 45 days we've had about 2 or 3 of rain here in (miserable grey)
England.

Strange times :-D

I have a brand new iPhoneSE. I've had it just slightly more than 24 hours. It
came with an app from my provider that monitors a gadget that attaches to the
OBDC port & alerts me whenever there is anything I need to take care of.

It's about to drive me crazy.

Otherwise, I'm slowly getting used to it.

I went to my Macintosh User's Group meeting last night & they showed me how
create a new folder to hold all the apps that I will probably never use, but
don't want to delete yet, so my screen is not so crowded.

I just figured how to set up my Earthlink email account so it will only download
email when I open the Mail app and select the Earthlink account.

I know what accessories I need to buy so I can connect it to the internet via
Ethernet and won't have to bother with wi-fi here at home.

Later tonight I'm going out to McDonald's and use their wi-fi to download
GasBuddy & ThePhotographersEphemeris.

I just finished cutting the grass, but I still have to put the lawnmower away
because it's starting to rain.

Later.

Re: OT: Life's little aggravations

2018-08-11 Thread John Sessoms
I have to log in to my "account" on Verizon's web site & jump through a bunch of
hoops to add the specific phone number to my call blocker. And it only blocks
that specific number, so the next time I get a call from a different number in
their modem pool I have to do it all over again.

Rinse & repeat ...

Blocking robo-calls is even more hassle than the robo-calls themselves.

AND THEN ... after writing this my mouse died. With the mouse sitting still, the
pointer started jumping around the screen, flashing up menus and stuff.

How does an optical mouse with no moving parts wear out?

Fortunately, I have a spare USB mouse from my laptop. I don't know where I'm
going to find a genuine PS2 mouse (not one with a PS2 to USB adapter).

OTOH ...

I managed to get out of the house Friday & do some actual photography. Drove
down to the Outer Banks & photographed the Milky Way behind the Bodie Island Light.

Also found a rattle-snake in the grass when I got there. Big one! I'd
"guesstimate" about 5 foot long. Didn't really want to get close enough to
measure it IYKWIM.

Don't know if the photos I took of it are any better than "snap-shot" grade, but
I'd never before seen a live rattle-snake in the wild. I'll try to have a couple
of PESOs up in a day or so.

One of the local camera clubs I belong to is having a quarterly contest - theme
is "North Carolina Animals in Nature - NOT birds and NOT insects". Maybe I'll
submit one to the contest. Rattle-snake is definitely not a bird or an insect.

In fact depending on your carrier, they may offer a call blocker, it might even
be a free service, even for a dumb phone.

I used to have that feature on a couple of different dumb phones, and the music
on hold option, which the Samsung pseudo Crackberry offered made me smile,
didn't cost any airtime but put the unwanted caller on hold with horrible
electronic music. Probably didn't bother the machines much but the actual humans
were probably very annoyed...

Press 1 to speak to a representative, Press 9 to decline and be removed.

I've never had any student loans, delinquent or otherwise. And I ain't
pressing no numbers; learned long ago that's no use whatsoever.

Thank you for your patience. /rant
