Re: An opinion: How much better can things get?

I don't know. I think we're spoiled. Sure small sensor cameras lack
dynamic range, when compared to larger formats, but compare any format
larger than 1" to 35mm slide film. Even 35mm reversal film didn't have
13+ stops of dynamic range.

i think the smaller-sensor cameras still need a new sensor technology
to surpass their limits in dynamic range and low light capabilities;
plus EVF display tech could still improve, along with the
mechanics/ergonomics of things like focus peaking, wireless transfer,
organizing photos (on camera)

Mark, I trusted you... and you...
I took some inexpensive lenses out of the closet, and tried them...
Their quality didn't go up. You mislead /me!

But on the other hand the *quality* of inexpensive lenses has gone up.
Way up.

An opinion: How much better can things get?

2017-01-09 Thread Collin B
When I look at almost everyone's digital camera offerings, they're all so
good.
Even the slowest AF is quite quick & does a fine job.
The features, like geotagging/gps were unimaginable with film.
Pixel shift improves on the in-camera edge processing. Others will follow.
Once we got computer-designed lenses with aspherical elements then even
once-mediocre lenses started to produce decently, let alone what was
happened to the nice lenses.

The only rough point is the price of good lenses. They've gone up while
bodies drop.

These days the photographer really has some nice choices out there.
