I wonder how the vans would sell if VW made a new one? The beauty of
the really old ones was that you could fix the engine with a nail
file.

I quit my job at the end of June, but before leaving for Mexico we did
a test drive from San Francisco to Chicago and back. Sorry if I
They make new ones! They just don't import them to the US. But you can
buy them even in Mexico. Of course, they are front-engined and not
forward control, and you won't be able to fix the engine with duct
tape and bail wire, but hey. You could probably make a really nice

Hey Juan!
Good to hear from you. I see your posts on the blog from time to time.
I'd love to do another trip like the one you're one. When ... who can
say? So many things occlude the possibility.
Felipe says to say hallo and good luck in your travels through Mexico.
Keep the photos coming ... ah,
VW does make a new one. You just can't import them into the U.S. They
call it the California, but you're never going to be able to buy one
in California ... or any other state.

Thanks guys!
Steven, yes, they are great vehicles. I've had mine for almost three
years now, and I've spent the last two preemptively changing every
part I could think of and afford. They can be money pits, but they are
both fun to drive and really versatile. I think I'll own one of these

A fabulous adventure. Looking forward to more. Be safe.
