Your question made me curious, so I did a bit of research in the
Retouching forum at DPR.
There it seem to be consensus that there are no sharpening plugins for
LR, because LR doesn't work on the actual files (non destructive
editing).
As I understand this, this means that output sharpening is

Can't answer your question.
But the beta suggests that we can expect some major improvements in
noise reduction and sharpening in LR 3.

I've been using lightroom for a couple of weeks now and have not yet
figured out how to compress dng files. If i shoot pef and use LR to
convert to dng the resulting dng files are compressed but if i shoot
dng LR does not seem to compress them after you modify them. So far

I've found to end up with compressed DNG is to
capture in PEF format and import into Lightroom with automatic DNG
conversion. I have it save the PEFs off into the archive storage and
generate the standard previews, add basic metadata and keywords, all
at the same time.
