Re: Jinxed my Bokina, can it be repaired?

2018-08-11 Thread J.C. O'Connell
thanks for the tips and suggestions but since I have found a suitable
replacement,
I have decided to sell the Bokina for parts/repair on ebay. maybe someone
out there knows
how to fix this model economically and it might make sense acquiring it at
a greatly reduced price

as a fixer upper.

problem is a sticky aperture ( stays wide open at moment of exposure
regardless of f stop setting ). It has this problem both on the "A"
setting and when f stops are set manually with the aperture ring.

does anyone know of an experienced shop that still services these
lenses?

its such a quality optic I hate to scrap it.

thanks in advance, jco

Re: Jinxed my Bokina, can it be repaired?

2018-08-11 Thread John Sessoms

I don't think sticky aperture blades would be beyond his competency.

Eric had a look at my Tokina and apparently didn't have any problems getting it
apart & putting it back together. He was not able to fix it because there was a
worn out part that he couldn't get a replacement for.

I've since had another guy take a look at it and while he had it disassembled,
he showed me what part needs to be replaced. The needed part is an "information
brush" quite similar to the one shown in the Pentax F 70-210 link.

https://web.archive.org/web/20110317023023/http://members.shaw.ca/hargravep/70-210.htm

I'm pretty sure the part my lens needs isn't specific to the Pentax lens mount
and a part taken from a lens of the same model in a different mount would work
in my Tokina.

But, if not, the fix shown in the above Disassembly/Repair page suggests I might
be able to fabricate a usable replacement part if I can't find a similar lens to
cannibalize.

If Eric will fix the Tokina, he'll be doing you a special favor.

He doesn't have manuals on anything but Pentax, so he'll just go deep enough to
fix the immediate problem, he doesn't want to be responsible for destroying your
lens, and I don't blame him.
