Re: PEOW: Pie-Billed Grebe
Great capture! If I had to have one nit about it - I would like more Grebe slightly less surroundings. Still a very good capture, well executed. Okay, got it. I agree with ken -- a bit tighter crop would help. But it's an excellent shot. Paul -- Original message -- From: Kenneth Waller [EMAIL PROTECTED] Great capture! The leaf reflections make sort of star effect, rays radiating outward, from the bird. Nice one, J ann Jay Taylor wrote: I haven't been very active on the PDML lately, but I do try to browse the archive and half way keep up with you all. Here is a recent shot I thought was a nice capture http://i.pbase.com/ o6/87/63987/1/81261177.gmwcxIHL.PieBilledGrebe1062407.jpg Even with the long zoom (FA*250-600/5.6) I found I had to be pretty stealthy to get into a position to make a few capture of these skittish birds. Since it was an overcast day I figured I'd better take Joe's advice and use the tripod. Seems like the results are quite a bit better than hand holding the huge lens; at least in less than optimal lighting conditions. Captured with the K10D, processed in Lightroom and CS3. Comments critique welcome as always. Thanks, JayT -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

Jay Taylor wrote: http://i.pbase.com/ o6/87/63987/1/81261177.gmwcxIHL.PieBilledGrebe1062407.jpg It's a nice shot, colors, detail, background are all really nice. One gripe: the bird is dead-center. If it was offset to one side or the other I think the composition would work better. Even with the long zoom (FA*250-600/5.6) I found I had to be pretty stealthy to get into a position to make a few capture of these skittish birds. They aren't easy... Since it was an overcast day I figured I'd better take Joe's advice and use the tripod. I don't know why you WOULDN'T use a tripod EVERY day. Except for flight shots with 1/1000 or greater shutter speeds I wouldn't handhold any long lens. The 250-600 would be great on a gimball style mount like the Wimberley and would probably work quite well on the Sidekick (for a lower-cost solution). -- Christian http://photography.skofteland.net -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
