Re: OT Photo dot net email about accounts.
I received that same thing yesterday. There was no attachment on the email I got. There is a link in the email - "Terms And Conditions" or something like that - that will download a Zip containing a JS file. Interesting that the email I got is not a phishing scam - they don't ask for any info from the recipient. The message just said they would upgrade you to a premium account and your credit card will be charged on 10/1. I think the goal is to deliver the javascript payload. I tried logging into photo.net but its been so long I don't know my password. And multiple attempts at resetting the password have failed - the link never arrives. Curious - did you write photo dot net so that the spammers wouldn't find out there's a photo.net? > On 21 Sep 2017, at 13:08, David J Brookswrote: > > anyone get an email from the above stating new terms and conditions. > It also acknowledge a subscription payment and receipt made back in > July 15th by me. Re: OT Photo dot net email about accounts.
Just got an email from the real photo dot net advising they are aware of the bogus email and have taken efforts to stop it. Among other things the email states - "No credit card information is stored by photo.net so there is no way photo.net could charge credit cards. All of our transactions are handled with encypted tokens and handled by either PayPal or Stripe - again no credit card information is stored at photo.net." "What we know now, is that this is a phishing expedition that originates from a domain registered in China (udeth.com) and hosted in Los Angeles (sudjam.com)." 'We have been trying to contact the US based hosting company to let them know this email is associated with their company, but beyond that we have also reported this as a phishing email to the authorities." Re: OT Photo dot net email about accounts.
Clever piece of phishing, that. Got one this morning too. Never had a paid subscription, and it's been like a decade since I last logged on there. They could very well have been hacked, or at least that someone found a way to crawl through profiles and harvest email addresses. Jostein. Re: OT Photo dot net email about accounts.
I received two such e-mails this night/morning - a few hours apart. 1. I don't have a premium account, and I didn't pay anything, so, information is bogus 2. Indeed, the email came from an address (and via server) in Finland, and that confirmed my concerns. 3. Both messages have an attachment. Do NOT open it. It is masqueraded as a ZIP-ed document, but it is a JavaScript, - most likely a virus. I suspect their website and user database has been hacked, and the database is used to send fake "invoice" containing a virus.
