I am reading learning perl 3rd edition. I like the book, but I am wondering
how long it should take to learn perl and should I be abel to do all the
exercises at the end of each chapter, with out problems? Any comments are
welcome.

It's a pretty good one.
although I think it really depends on what you want to
do with perl. It gets you started on using the
language, but I found it wasn't all that helpful for
building a web-based database application.
For that I recommend mysql by oreilly, and CGI
Programming by oreilly.
