I do a db_dump of my database every night. Recently, this has been
failing, and I have no idea why. Following is a detail (verbose) output

I'm running a very small database with 12-15 connections at any given
time and periodically postmaster crashes. It will run will run OK
anywhere from 1 or 2 hours to 1 or 2 days.
The error output is:
ERROR: postmaster: StreamConnection: accept: Connection timed out

I noticed this question was asked before in the psql-admin
mail archives, but I couldn't find a follow-up reply which
answered it or had a workaround.
I built Postgres 6.4.2 on IRIX 6.2 with the SGI 7.2.1 compilers
on a Power Onyx. The build went smoothly for a not-yet-supported
platform

Well, you should take the time to find the lists on www.postgresql.org
as I don't represent the PostgreSQL project in any way and can't offer
the same level of support as the lists...
Having said that,
Try diddling the ld lib path environmental variable to include
/usr/local/pgsql/l
