Hi,
Thanks for the comment. We actually listen to a lot of jazz. I am a band
teacher and have a jazz band at school. We play music from the 1920's on. We
have a 1940's jukebox at home full of jazz.
However, at the moment, I am really enjoying these quirky songs from the WW1
era. it is
I love the historical aspect of the music, as well. I guess that I'm stuck in
an era (the 20''s), which seems similar to the 1990's with the stock market
craze leading to the depression. That era produced some very good jazz. WWI is
an interesting historical era, but I find it to be somewhat
I'm chiming in here on the WWI music comments, so changing the subject line,
but leaving the most recent prior emails copied below, from Melissa's thread:

This is Ballard Doggett's website, where he sells a lot of unusual records of

are some interesting period videos on his website, as well, which makes it
worthwhile just for that reason.

Hi All,
Last week we won a box of phonograph parts along with our Victor II. Most of
them do not look very interesting. However, in the box was included a horn
elbow. I immediately thought it was just the elbow from a radio horn but now we
are wondering if it belongs to an Edison Opera. The
Hello Andrew,
I just wanted to write to congratulate you on a wonderful post! I thoroughly
enjoyed reading this. It is well written and interesting. You should really
consider submitting this as an article to In the Groove!
Thanks,Melissa

I have re-done our website and need some constructive feedback from you

Holy cow! That's one of the coolest websites I've ever seen. It has
fabulously beautiful graphics and Carolina-themed music. And it's even got a
vintage photo of a nudie girl and her phono!
Where did you learn how to create such a nice website? Most of us would have

Hello all.
I am looking for a source of modern (i.e. reproduction) cylinder boxes. I
have need of many of them, mainly because I get paranoid about mold from
some of the black brown cylinders that I have had infesting the tube,
for lack of a better word. I am looking for about 3-4 dozen
Thanks for your comments Jim. I'm an insurance agent by day and an underground
graphics/web designer by night... I basically taught myself how to use
PhotoShop and other graphics related software and the result is this website. I
don't know if you discovered the pictures (other than the girl)
I'll take a peek at the actual site when I have time to go fire up a computer,
but for now, here's my suggestion...
It would be nice if you could move it to modern web standards by implementing
html5, so more of us can enjoy it, or to at least provide a flash-free version.

Ok I got out my Mac and surfed your site. A few impressions:
1. You might want to not have the audio automatically start upon navigating to
each page, that is, default to pause rather than play. This prevents the music
from becoming an annoyance as you go back and forth - you keep hearing
If you are looking for archival boxes, there are a couple of makers of these. I
wrote a newsletter article on them, so if you give me a day or so I will find
the article and give you the sources. There is another source for the Blue
Amberol boxes, but these are not suitable for wax records.
I was told by a loyal Mac person tonight that the new version of the IPad
should include an emulator that allows MAC users to open Flashplayer files.
