[Phono-L] eBay

2011-12-09 Thread Michael Tucker
Some eBay sellers will go to extreme lengths to market their items at high prices - note the extravagant claim in item 350514099736 that this ( 109) is the earliest Fireside in existence. I have number 83 and 90 is also listed. No doubt there are at least several others below 109. Mike Tucker

[Phono-L] Dutreih cylinders

2011-10-16 Thread Michael Tucker
The Dutreih Intermediate cylinders are identical in size to the Pathe Intermediates. They have a slightly different box and start in the 150,000's. Hazarding a guess, I suspect they were manufactured by Pathe. I can supply photos if required. Mike Tucker mtuc...@exemail.com.au

[Phono-L] Half nuts

2011-08-27 Thread Michael Tucker
My thanks to Al for his kind words. The challenge now is to try to determine the cut-off point for the buttress thread. Rich, I have a Red Banner Long Case Home in fantastic condition which came with the original mandrel in the conversion box - obviously little used. It clearly has the 60

[Phono-L] Half Nuts

2011-08-27 Thread Michael Tucker
Have just checked the Home Suitcase with brass mandrel and it is also 60 deg V. This would indicate that the change took place before 1900 and that A Triumphs are most likely to also be 60 deg V - sorry, don't have one to check. Mike Tucker ___

2011-07-06 Thread Michael Tucker
For years I tried to find a satisfactory way to remove frozen bearings without damaging the shaft and I noted that someone had advertised a hollow cutting tool on eBay, so promptly had one made for the Standard and another for the Home. The process is quite simple - carefully knock off the

[Phono-L] Edison

2011-07-04 Thread Michael Tucker
Having just made a batch of half nuts for Homes and Triumphs I respectfully submit that Home and Triumph leadscrews do not have a buttress thread, but are 60 degree V threads. Took a bit of research as there are contemporary reports that a buttress thread was used, but close inspection under

2011-06-19 Thread Michael Tucker
I am interested in obtaining the topworks, particular the slide assembly with button lever and also the shaver, for a first model Columbia AT - the one with the fancy cabinet. Condition not critical as long as restorable. Will take a complete machine if the price is right. Again, condition not

[Phono-L] Weber Repeater

2011-06-02 Thread Michael Tucker
One of my projects has been to complete a Weber repeater, and in the process decided to make a couple of complete sets, just because we could - sound weird, but when you are having fun!! The Weber repeater was introduced around 1903/4 and was short lived, being superseded by the Edison Model D
