The motor looks very similar to the one in my Sonora Italian Renaissance deluxe
phonograph that I had George work on last winter,
but it is a different variation having the parts arranged differently. For
instance your governor mounts below the bottom

If the 'winner' of the first one doesn't pay, the seller would eventually
get their eBay fees refunded. PayPal would not be involved since nothing was
paid through PayPal.

This is getting off the topic of phonographs, but there actually were quite
a few light bulb inventors before Edison that put filaments into evacuated
glass bulbs and patented their ideas. Edison's bulb was considered practical
when he came up with a filament that was bright enough, would last
Most of you probably don't know me. I don't belong to any of the phonograph
clubs, but I've been quietly following the various phonograph newsgroups
over the years, have popped up with a question once in awhile, and tonight
after reading everyone's storys thought I'd share mine too.
You see,
Dennis,
Yes, sellers can only leave positive feedback but could say negative things
about a buyer in the feedback comments. However, this is a violation of
eBay's feedback policy. If the buyer reports it, eBay will remove it and
possibly suspend the seller's account, so I wouldn't recommend
But, just replying Yes or No does very little to get the sale going. It just
would require a legitimate buyer to have to ask more questions and drags out
the process. For a much better response I'd include my phone number,
address, when a good time might be to pick it up, plus anything else I
Yes. Here's the complete message I received for something I'm selling on
Craigslist right now: I won't bother responding to it. If 'Liz' was really
interested she'd include her phone # or say a little more to let me know she
actually wants it.
Hi! Is this still for sale?!

I just picked up a Columbia Regent Desk phonograph that is missing a louver.
The phonograph is on one end of the desk, and the horn points out the other
end, with two adjustable louvers covering it, that you can adjust with a
knob to change the volume. Actually, I thought both louvers were
at his seemingly good feedback, too. According to
it, he's your standard A+ best ebayer ever! will do business
again! which is so meaningful and special as we all know, right?

Yes, it sure doesn't sound like the seller is trying to keep his customers
Search Google for who invented the light bulb and you'll see the
overwhelming consensus that Edison did not invent it. He improved earlier
light bulb inventions and designed power plants to power his light bulb.
The most important part of this was that he marketed the entire lighting
system,
talking about incandescent bulbs
here... obviously the arc light was successful in its own field).

What is the purpose of continuing to beat this seller's description?
While we agree that it is highly unlikely the paint was applied at the
factory, the paint is good enough that a seller without vast phonograph
experience could easily think it looks as old as the machine, and therefore

I just looked at firebottles feedback and see that sirjamesbarrie bought the
Edison, plus many other over-priced items. I don't know exactly who
sirjamesbarrie is, but clicking his feedback shows a photo. He must not care
what the cost is, but just wants nice things. It looks like he had
Of course it could be shilling sometimes, but then I've been thrilled to see
how high some of the common things I've sold on ebay have gone, and I KNOW
there was no shilling.

I just picked up a Lakeside cylinder phono this week and am looking for some

Dan,
Yep, I completely agree with you on this. I've had the same experiences
selling things to flakey buyers. It even happens when I try to give away
free things on Craigslist - Free couch - someone calls and says they are
borrowing a truck and will be over in a couple hours - they never show
Does it make a difference if the antique being shipped has just been sold
and the seller has a receipt showing it's value? I can understand that they
might balk at covering an antique for which there is no authentic value
established.

I agree with this too. Although I'm not sure that it's easier to collect
from FedEx since I've never had any damage from them to find out. FedEx also
has much shorter lines to stand in for some strange reason.
