Great, you and George Vollema concur. I can install the replacement handle without removing rivets and it will look much like the original! Thanks Guys! Re: [Phono-L] Victor Portables
I wonder who wrote that article? It appears to be very comprehensive and is in the March 2004 Issue which is the first of the renovated new style CAPS Sound Box issues. I appreciate your mentioning it, I have all the new improved issues, but since I joined years later and got the back issues I have not read them all yet. The article even shows the Post-War model 5H with the RCA sound box. There was an extensive article on the RCA suitcase portables in The Sound Box a few years ago. You might see if back issues are still available. I could be wrong, but there doesn't seem to be any information on RCA Victor Suitcase Style crank Victrolas made after 1930. I can't find any on line information as to the various models and when they were made. The one shown in the video simply says Model 02. I have never been able to pinpoint the year it was first offered to the General Public. Since it is RCA, it is post '29 but from the look of it, I'm guessing 1940s. I don't know if anyone has done research on these things. [Phono-L] Victor Portables
Hi, all, I am trying to get familiar with the various Victor portables so that I can choose the best one for my projected use. I have a 1929 Pierce-Arrow which I frequently take to car shows where we also appear in period clothes. I would like to add a Victor portable to the entourage that will sound good and look luxurious (in keeping with the car). Can you share your opinions of Orthophonic machines like a 2-55 versus the earlier VV-50? It looks to me like the VV-50 is easier to deal with and is easier of the records, but I'd like to hear from the experts. Thanks, Bill Morris

I also bring along a portable phonograph when I show my 3 Ford Model T's. I use a VV-50 and have used a Victor E or M front mount for my 1913 Tim Gray - Original Message - From: Bill Morris billm...@core.com To: phon...@oldcrank.com Sent: Friday, November 28, 2003 4:51 PM Subject: [Phono-L] Victor Portables Hi, all, I am trying to get familiar with the various Victor portables so that I can choose the best one for my projected use.
